Late June Sleeve Buddies?

Recommended Posts

I've been stalled between 266-268 for a good week or so! Down exactly 20 lbs. Just focusing on drinking my Water etc. I know from reading other posts on here that we are not alone, and that the scales will eventually start to move again!

Went to a clinic today for my cough and surprise! It could be my blood pressure medicine. Huh. I haven't had any congestion, chest or sinus, so it makes sense. Been coughing my head off. Hoping that burns some calories bc I have zero energy to exercise right now. I couldn't sleep hardly at all for coughing last night. Tried some rotisserie chicken today and it went down fine stomach wise, though it made me cough like crazy lol.

I was on Lotrel, which is a combo of a Calcium channel blocker and an ACE inhibitor. It took about a month, but I developed a dry hacking cough, kind of like kennel cough :) It resolved immediately when my doc took me off the Lotrel and put me on an ACE inhibitor alone (lisinopril). Did your doc make a change for you?

The BP meds got me as well. I would stand up, get light-headed and pass out. My BP was 80 over 35. I asked my surgeon "How long will it take for me to no longer need my BP meds?" He told me immediately. Wow.

Yep! I was told to suspend my lisinopril the day of surgery, and never took another one! My pressure is consistently 120s/70s now. It's magical!

I went for my one month follow-up today and was cleared to switch from liquids to soft foods. I had hummus for lunch because I went straight to costco from my appointment and the single pack was easy to eat on the way home. I had a very small piece of salmon with one tablespoon of cottage cheese for dinner. It was so wonderful to actually eat something besides popsicles and soup! I was surprised at how full I felt after a few bites (definitely grateful for that!) I was a bit disappointed that I only lost 7 pounds since the 2-week appointment, but I guess I should be grateful for losing during weeks three and four.

@@shotgun72000 I lost 23 lbs in almost three weeks, then nothing for a week. Then I lost 2 lbs one day, then nothing for a couple. Now I'm down 1.5 one day, back up one the next, down one the following...it's crazy. I'm not panicking, because I KNOW I'm on plan. I measure and weigh all my food, track it religiously, I'm getting at least 48oz Water daily and walking my butt off (literally, I hope!!). I'm going to ride this out and be in a single digit size by January, I hope! I have a couple of friends who've had the surgery (both RnY) and they've been very reassuring that it's normal to have a little plateau every now and then. Donell1000 posted a link in this thread a couple of weeks ago about glycemic conversion and how it affects weight loss. It would be worth going back and finding it, it was a very good read.

This thread makes me depressed. I was sleeved 6/22, lost 12 pounds in the first 3 weeks (mostly because of a LOT of cardio) but have been stalled for the last 9 days.

I feel great and have zero side effects, but I keep waiting for the freakin' weight loss to begin! Everyone else has pounds "melting off" and I have to literally sweat it off to lower my weight, just like pre-surgery.

It seems like many people with lower BMIs lose more slowly than those of us who start at 40 and above.

@@Seastars You said "I just didn't think losing weight with the sleeve would be this hard. I read posts about the three-week stall, but that's AFTER someone loses, like, 30 pounds or so!"

My 3 week stall was at 23 lbs, and I started with a BMI of 41 and no pre-op diet so no weight loss. My high weight was my day of surgery weight. I'm in my 5th week and still not at 30 lbs lost.

And don't forget that men tend to lose faster than women, especially if they start at a much higher weight.

Hang in there...I'm still eating 500-600 cals/day, I can't get to 800 and I think it may be inhibiting my weight loss. I'm walking, using the elliptical, doing some arm and leg weight work, etc...it'll come off.

I was cleared to take all my bp meds after surgery, but I personally whittled it down to a half dose of metoprolol and a full dose of the benazapril hctz. It's the benazapril that's doing it. I have that hacking cough exactly! I even said it seemed like kennel cough lol. But it has gotten worse last couple of days. I have an appt with my primary doc tomorrow afternoon. I am quitting benazapril until then and going to full dose of metoprolol (1 pill in morning, 1 in evening). My bp has improved but still gets high if I don't take enough medicine. I may still have to take medication at my normal weight as its genetic. But one pill is better than the original three! Hopefully the benazapril will get out of my system quickly so i can get back to everything and not feel so exhausted

@@ShelterDog64 I was prepared for the stall, especially when I was consistently dropping two lbs everyday for a week straight (miss those days). I'm not worried at all being stalled, bc I'm only reaching about 600 calories, 50 grams Protein and all my Water intake so I know it will pass.

I've definitely hit slight stalls. I'm in one right now where I havent lost in about a week. I'm definitely hitting my Protein goals without any issues but I'm not hitting my 64oz Water goal. I've only hit it total about 3 times. I do consistently hit 50+ oz a day tho. Drinking all that water feels like a job. It's hard. I know it'll all eventually happen tho and more weight will come off. I finally go back to work this week so that will help. I also have to go get my procedure done tomorrow to see if I have a structure bc I always feel like something is stuck in my throat/esophagus

@shelterdog64. Sorry I didn't get back sooner. Doc said it appeared ok but that he has to go back and look at everything and write up a report. It still feels like things are stuck and bc of that it makes me puke or just feel uncomfortable.

Also, my stress level has been through the roof. I started back to work today and while I was so excited I had no energy after 5 hours. Also, yesterday was a terrible day. I found out that my fiancées brother was found dead. He was only 30. July is a tough month for me as my sister passed two years ago in July also

I'm so sorry you're having a hard time right now....I can't imagine going through a lot of emotional trauma right now AND trying to learn to live with my sleeve. Are you able to exercise? I felt like I was going to tear my autistic son's head off yesterday evening, so I went for a VERY long walk and actually liked him again by the time I got home :) I hope your doctor is able to do something for you and that stuck feeling as well. Hang in there!!

Here's a link to the cauliflower and egg Breakfast bites I found last week. They're REALLY good and a nice change from what I've been eating in the mornings. I'm in such a food rut, I really need to shake it up a bit...these are delicious and I need to find more interesting stuff like this.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
