Any veteran sleevers who did NOT experience hair loss?

Recommended Posts

In the over 2 years on these boards, I know ONE person who said they haven't lost any hair. @@Miss Mac, I believe. Others chime in if I'm wrong or you didn't either.

Most people do. There's not a lot you can do to stop it, but possibly minimize it. Make sure you're meeting your Protein goals, religiously take your Vitamins, use Biotin. I did all of the above, and still lost some (about 25%) hair. No biggie. At almost 2 years out, the benefits of being a healthy size 6 far outweigh losing a bit of hair. It has also come back to pre WLS thickness :)

I keep my hair very short, so if I lost any hair at all, I didn't notice it--now 5yrs out.

Protein, Protein, protein. That's all I can suggest.

I wonder sometimes if genetics have a hand in the Hair loss mix. ???

I'm not a "veteran" but I can tell you I am doing everything I can possibly do to minimize it. I don't know I would be experience more of a loss than I am now but I get at least 90g Protein, take my Vitamins faithfully, use Nioxin Shampoo, and I also take Biotin and collagen. It may be overkill but I have to know I am trying to lessen the loss.

Many people do everything they can possibly do and they still lose their hair.

I am suspecting you want people a year or more out - I am just about 4 months post op, but so far no abnormal hair loss. I'd know it too as I have very fine, thin hair.

I take good care of the hair I have, as far as products and treating it well.

I make sure I am getting good amounts of Protein and my Vitamins.

I eat eggs daily - full of good for your hair nutrients.

I try not to stress about this wild ride WLS is.

probably I am a slower than average looser, so not sure what effect that would have.

I lost a lot of hair and had major stress when my son went into a group home - so I know it's not just that I don't loose hair in stressful situations but at the end of the day I think it is just going to happen or not.

I did lose hair, but no one noticed but me. It was just lots more hair in my brush for a few months. My hairdresser didn't even see any changes (or at least she was being nice about it).

You really can't tell who will lose and who will REALLY lose hair. It is caused by the shock of surgery and the starvation diet for the first few weeks where you aren't getting much nutrition from food. If you can keep your Protein levels up then it minimizes the effects, but you'll honestly be lucky to get in even half your fluid/protein minimums for the first week or two so just make sure to take your Vitamins and don't go crazy buying hair serums and stuff since it probably will be a waste of money.

I've heard if you can get geletin capsules or just eat lots of sugar free Jello as soon as you are cleared for that, it can help keep the hair you have healthy. Same goes for Biotin, but double check that it's not already in the Vitamins you're taking as excess Biotin just gets flushed out when you pee. So no sense buying extra if it's already in there.

It is temporary. Everyone gets their hair growing back in within a few months of the Hair loss. So I wouldn't panic over it. :)

Not necessarily a veteran, but I didn't notice any Hair loss. I have short thin hair so you can see in some spots its thinner than in others. I was worried that I would lose or at least thin what little I had, but I can say that my hair stayed and it even looks better now. Not sure if this is really the cause, but I blame it on all the Protein. Now 10 months out and loving life! I was going to try Biotin but never got around to it. Best of luck!

As a male I can tell you I experienced the exact opposite. I didn't have any Hair loss at all on my head or face. In fact I got Hair growth. My body especially my belly and thighs are now covered in hair that wasn't there before I had surgery.

Tink, side bar. Dude, congrats on your loss! I hope it feels as good as it looks! Keep it up man!

Ok, sorry to sidetrack this thread, back to your previously scheduled program!

7 months in and no hair loss. I take Biotin twice a day, B12, D3, and a chewable Multi-Vitamin. Latest blood work from 2 weeks ago shows everything in normal range.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
