I just thought I'd mention a couple of things that frustrate me post-op. Feel free to add if you have examples of your own. I'm sure someone somewhere can relate.

1. When you eat something that turns out to be way less than satisfying or even borderline gross, but you're out of space to try something different.

2. When friends/family watch you eat because they're waiting to see just how much you can eat.

3. When the same person asks you nearly every day if you've lost any more weight as if it happens overnight, every night.

4. When people apologize for eating in front of you or avoid eating in front of you, even after you tell them it does not bother you at all several times.

I could go on but I'll stop here.

I had to add one more that I just remembered. I'm 5 weeks post op and already I've had so many people say, "Now you can find you a man!" Um...me being overweight has nothing to do with me being single. I've had more men than I can count show interest in me, morbidly obese and all. For people to assume that I'm single because I'm fat and my surgery is the answer to my single problems is beyond ridiculous. Okay, I'm really done now lol.

Wow, I haven't had surgery yet (6/16) but I imagine mine will be same as yours. My grandmother has told me several times throughout my 14 years of marriage that "If you loose weight your hubby will never leave you" thanks grandma! until this day, I feel a pain in my heart every time I think about it. Sorry if this is a lil off topic.

I was over 350lbs and got good looking men. I always felt they were completely out of my league. I wouldnt give uo my husband now for anything. He was worried about surgery, but has been nothing but supportive.

I agree with numbers 2 and 3 and would add one more. When after a month and a half people still ask me how I am feeling. I felt great from day 2 but it just doesn't seem to sink in.

It's stopped now but at first anytime I ate my mom would always ask "can you eat that?"

I can't find ANY food that I desire or satisfies me. I mean nothing!! It's kinda crazy that food to me now it just eh. I used to crave a good steak or shrimp and now when I have those things I'm like "well that was disappointing"

It definitely makes eating a chore when you don't enjoy it anymore.

I hate when people who know about the surgery and my dietary restriction keep asking me if I want food, or what I can eat.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
