Is your uk plan different to most on here

Recommended Posts

Hi all so glad I found this uk section. As I'm getting confused. I had surgery here in UK self pay my bmi was 30 I had surgery at alixandra bmi hospital I did all my own recerch before deciding on surgery than rang hospital and was given a surgery date in 2 weeks time, after surgery I was given a small print out with not much info and my first follow up appointment was for in 6 weeks time. So I have turned to this forum for most info. Which has litrally been a life saver.

Now after seeing my doctor and dietician there advice is so different from what I'm reading on here, I understand all plans are different but my dietician stuck her nose up when I mentioned this forum, and said " I bet all they talk about is protine ha ha" then went on to advising me to eat crackers, I'm just confused, dont we all have the same needs and are bodys need the same nutrients, etc

So I was just wondering does anyone who had surgery in the UK find there plan so diffrent to others.

Thanks

Even if you read all the post from those in the U.S their directions are not standardized either... Lots of this seems to be based on the surgeon's thinking...hope you are well

Dietitians and surgeons are humans and all graduated from different schools so of course their opinions would be different from one another. At this stage, I think following your surgeon's/dietitians advice is the best you can do. At a later advanced stage, you can educate yourself on nutrition and fitness and come up with the best plan that suits your body's needs. You know, I can follow a diet and that diet would be perfect for me and make me lose weight, however, it might not work for my sister. In the end, asking for help and advice from the experts is of course beneficial but I (myself) wouldn't rely on their advice all my life.

You're posting on the gastric sleeve thread of the U.K. site but you have just mentioned that you're having the band. Two very different surgical procedures with two entirely different post operative ways of eating. Think you may have to post on a forum that deals with the band as opposed to other forms of WLS. Good luck.

Heidi, I had mine done in Europe and for the mushy phase of food they allowed carbs like mashed potato etc that they recommend you cut out when losing (i.e. from solid food onwards) because they are bland and easy for your stomach to process, so maybe that's why?

Remember, not all nutritionists/dietitians are created equal when it comes to food advice post surgery. My group recommends staying under 50g of carbs a day while losing, which I started right from the mushy phase because I didn't want to deal with having to phase out carbs again with all the cravings.

Thanks for the replys and advice and good luck to those who are having/had recent surgery.

Well I was having a steady weight loss up until I introduced carbs bk into my diet and cut out the shakes, (as advised by dietician) now I have had my first stall and I am more hungry and craving carbs.

So I think I will give it another week or so and if no improvement I will be going back to what I was doing, and what i find worked better for me, protine first, etc

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
