My doc never mentioned this..

I wish there was a way to publish the entire patient guide on here... This was the third doctor I went to see, the only one who provided in depth info.. If insurance doesn't improve me, I too am considering Mexico... Just got back from a vacation there, love it!

I did have foamies and threw up once in the early days. It was when I tried to eat something bad. I tried regular ice cream about a month out, and the sugar/fat content made me really sick - I was having shaking, sweats and felt awful until I did throw up, but it passed rather quickly. And I never ate it again. ;)

I have no idea if my experience with vomiting is normal after bariatric surgery, but it didn't hurt, and it felt very different to me from what it was like before surgery; there was no heaving or strain involved - food just came right back up.

@@FrankiesGirl I've read that sugary/fried foods will make ppl vomit. I thought foamies is when ppl get a horrible , saliva taste in their mouth but don't throw up?

Yup. It can also progress into what is called "dumping" which is where the vomiting part comes in. Foamies is the really thick foam/saliva part, but it can sit so heavy on your stomach and having it in your mouth and all... it can turn into a gagging thing pretty easy and you'll want to get it out just because it feels kind of gross.

Dumping is where your body overreacts to the sugar/fat of what you just ate and makes you hot, shaky and sick feeling, which is normally just vomiting but can cause diarrhea too. Which is why eating things high sugar or fat in the early months is pretty much taking on the risk of getting foamies and/or dumping besides derailing your progress. Not worth it (trust me on this). :)

But it will help keep you honest if you do experience either of them after that. Gotta look for that silver lining, right? :D

Ohhh, thank you for the explanation. I just looked up the video that was mentioned earlier on this thread, I'm a newbie so don't know how to load it but here's a screenshot

Uhh, nope. Don't know how to load a pic here either lol

@@LindaLena I was thinking maybe you should attend a surgery meeting at a place local to you to gather more info... The meeting is free and if run by a surgeon would provide lots of info.

@ I'm going to call around on Monday. Great idea and hopefully I can find something. All I do is watch YouTube videos on sleevers and then I found this site. Helps a lot but I do feel stupid asking. Thank you

I'm in NY, where are you?

The seminar I went to excellent... If you go to the website of most surgeons they have seminars you can register for to do online... I admire your courage of going to Mexico, much less hassle than dealing with insurance here in the USA

Unfotunately I am a slow learner so foamies and vomiting have happened over the past nine months. However, every time it did occur was because I ate something or in a way I shouldn't. The foamies went away after the first few months (hopefully because I learned how to eat). As for vomiting, my sleeve is picky and that's how it lets me know a particular food choice is not appreciated. On a couple of occasions I ate too much, too quickly and my stomach let me know it. Could it happen, especially if you push the envelope - yes. But you learn what you can and can't do. It's all part of the process, and if it does happen to you, a small price to pay for the incredible results.

My acid reflux is completely gone and has been since about 2 months out of surgery(I also don't take any medicine to control it) But I had a hiatal hernia repair at the time of my sleeve also. I only get it once around "that time of the month" like clock work. I have never thrown up or got the "foamies" I have felt overly full plenty of times though.. just standing up and walking it off seems to be the best relief for me, when that does happen.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
