Hey folks, I'm two week post-op and I'm technically in soft-foods, but they need to be REALLY saucy or in Soup to stay down. Anyone have any good recipes for vegetable-based sauces outside of the Tomato and squash family?

One of my favorite things is a version of an eggplant salad

take an eggplant and prick it with a knife a couple times, then roast it in the oven until the insides are very soft. then toss it in a food processor with a spoonful of mayo, some salt, and a squirt of lemon juice. Traditionally you also add tahini but I'm not a fan of that

also if you're having trouble keeping things down maybe go back to liquids for a little while longer

@@Sophie74656 Thanks so much!!! I'm going to try this. I wanted to stay on liquids for a while longer, but my surgeon is giving me fuss. He wants me to weed in as much soft foods as I can.

you can also make a version of a greek sauce (taziki?) with cottage cheese

grate some cucumber so it's mush and mix with cottage cheese, dill, lemon juice, garlic, and salt to taste. You can mix in some plain greek yogurt for some Protein

sorry for not giving the amounts I never write them down. You can pretty much do as much or as little as you want of the ingredients

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
