Stomach problems and other health issues after surgery

Recommended Posts

My name is Claudia. I am 36 years old. I live in Las Vegas. I weighed 300 lb. I knew I was over weight had alot of back problems fatty liver disease and knee problems. I was unhappy because I couldn't fit into the clothes I wanted to fit in. I tried on my own and failed. I finally decided to get weight loss surgery. Only after I went swimming with my kids and my 12 yr old was embarrassed of me. He told a new kid he just met that his mom was not there. That broke my heart. After that I started my journey into the weight loss surgery. I went to the seminar and was told I would only be able to eat small , drink Water constantly and not to eat and drink @ the same time.I was also told that I would have to take Vitamins forever. So I said ok I knew 3 persons that had done the gastric sleeve surgery and they look great. So Nov 17th 2014 I had my surgery. I'm not sure why but I woke up later than everyone else I went in @ 10 a short time after I went in I think it was 11am and then woke up some time I remember in the recovery room having a lot of chest pain and seeing the guy next to my going crazy. Then I was put back to sleep I woke up around 6pm everyone was gone I was in a room alone. I had a lot of nausea and couldn't eat or drink and had aa lot of pain. I was told it was normal released 2 days later still feeling the same way. Not eating or drinking but still let go? Then my ER journey began. 1st Er visit dehydration and was told that I also had a hernia repair @ the same time of my gastric sleeve surgery. I was confused because I was never told while in the hospital @ the time of my surgery that I also had a hernia repair. I was given IV pain meds xrays mri and then sent home.I was unable to hold anything down nausea vomiting and worsening pain. I went back to the ER low potassium I was given bag after bag and it felt like my arm was on fire. Until a nurse mixed it with something and it made it better.Again they only checked my sleeve xray mri Iv got sent home. I was unable to eat or drink without getting sick. My primary care Dr. kept sending me back to the weight loss surgeon and my weight loss surgeon kept telling me my primary care DR. had to do other test and keep checking my blood work. Well my primary care Dr did not. So off to the Er I went and was hospitalized they checked the same things again and my DR @ the on call Dr.Luss was a very big ahole. He said well that is what weight loss surgery is for and laughed as I was vomiting bile by this time. He said I was fine to go home I refused had to call the hospital administration and they said I did not have to leave if I did not feel safe and I did not. That same Dr.Luss took me of my pain meds I got worse I couldn't even get up I had severe diarrhea. I called the nurse and she didn't come I was in so much pain and had to go to the restroom so I got up and fell pulled the cord to the phone called my boyfriend he got there faster than the nurse. That day Dr.Luss decided to have a GI Dr check my it took her less than 5 min to tell me it was my gallbladder she ordered a ultrasound to be sure I asked her if I could please have the pain meds back and she even said she did not know why the Dr. took me off my pain meds. I was crying in pain and the Dr.Luss was like whatever. The ultrasound was taken that same night. And that same night I was scheduled for surgery the next day.Dec 24 in the morning my gallbladder was removed.I was sent home with a TPN bag feeding bag with a tube in my arm that was feeding me. I lost 100lbs in less than 5 months. It is March 2016 and I still have many issues and still can't eat as much as I should and I can't even drink liquids as much as I should I eat around 5 oz a day sometimes and I'm still doing ice chip and frozen popsicles. I have severe depression with suicidal thoughts went to see a psychologist

and told her she asked me do you feel that way now I said no she let me go a few days later my boyfriend stopped me the psychologist knew I had attempted suicide before when I was young but hey I now weigh 170lb. I was told I would be able to eat and drink liquids and so far I still have pain and a lot of nausea and stomach issues. And for some reason I have had laryngitis for 4 months now and noone can tell me why.I found this site looking to see if anyone else had similar issues. They also should mention that if you are a women you will get your period I have the mirena and still got my period right after the surgery. I just want to know if anyone has had or has any issues similar to what I have gone through. I have to keep going maybe I can get some answers or other things I have not tried yet? Anything? Let me know.Thank for reading And since I lost the weight so fast I have saggy skin anyone in Las Vegas know where I can go and have skin removal for low cost?

There is a lot to your story.

Are you sure you have laryngitis and not acid issues in your throat? Do you take anything for GERD?

You said you eat 5 ounces a day. 5 ounces of what?

1st off continue to see your psychologist!! You need the added support....hang in there although my story is not so rough i had suicidal thoughts due to another illness...but that too passed and happy i never did...this too shall pass...you can always go to another weightloss surgeon for advice and a 2nd opinion...sometimes it takes someone seeing things from the outside in. I would try there...their is a section in bariatric pal that is by location maybe someone can shed light on another doctor...the past is the past and i know you have a sour taste for your docs but take a deep breath in....and start back at stage 1...one symptom at a time...their is light...and if ever you feel suicidal please reach out to someone even if me...hang in their hun.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
