May 16th surgery buddies?.....Let's do this together!

Recommended Posts

I just left the surgeon's office and have a May 16th surgery date as well!! I am so excited! I'll be starting a liquid diet one week prior so May 9th. Not excited about it at all but am trying to look at it as a step in this fantastic journey that I am so looking forward to.

@@Maggie Journey, I am not loving this all liquid diet so far. I have only been able to get down 3 shakes a day because I am not used to the taste. It is no bueno to me. I got Peanut Butter flavor and now am mixing the chocolate and peanut butter together and it makes it a little easier to get down. My tummy is starting to really rumble! I know I need to get more in but the taste makes it hard for me. I am trying though!! One day at a time. Only 12 1/2 more to go!!!

oh crap! I just had my pre-op appointment with the surgeon this morning and found out even though the insurance company told me my authorization was approved it's not....it is still under review!!! What was approved was the hernia repair (it auto approves).....The sleeve procedure is still under review!.....I meet all the requirements so it should be approved without any issues but it still makes me nervous waiting!!! ekkkkkk....The doc gave me all my scripts today and included one special request I had for Valium.....The insurance company better hurry up and do their thing otherwise all my Valiums will be gone...hahaha

@@kmorri, I am so sorry!! When will you know you're approved? I think that there is a time requirement that the insurance company must come back with an answer, one way or the other. For me, it was 15 business days from the time the surgeon submitted my paperwork. Hang in there, girl!

Good news!!! the official approval came through! talk about nerve wracking!!! Can we say relief?

That's amazing! 3 of my coworkers had surgery with Dr. Uchal and they had a great experience. I ended up going with a different surgeon because I prefer Baptist Hospital. But that's not so very far from SVMC! BTW, I was born at St. Vincent's Riverside.

@@vongphillips, I understand. The taste with the artificial sweeteners, etc - yuck. I have struggled to even get 3 of them down, also.

I stopped by my surgeon's office to drop off FMLA papers today and while I was there I got weighed. I'm down 3 pounds! The bright side of fasting, I guess.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
