I attended a educational seminar on bariatric surgery first step on 4/16, and my first appointment is on May 2nd I'm nervous but excited to start my new journey. Alot of people are against me having surgery saying I'm going to regret it and just eat less exercise but I've been dealing with weight since I was a little kid until now (I'm 22 and weigh 330 pounds) I've tried diets, met with nutritionist, even tried to starve myself . Qnyone whose never had a weight problem will never understand how hard this is.

You can do this if you decide it is for you. I KNOW you can. I was fat my whole life, i waited until i was 44 to have my surgery and now at 45 im thin or correct weight for the first time in my life. You have to want to do this for you. No one else can live your life for you. If you decide this is for you, then please do what you know, deep inside is best. There are a lot of people here that will help you anyway we can. God luck!

Very few morbidly obese people can lose alot of weight and keep it off without WLS. I can only say - I wish I got my obesity under control at your age! You don't want to go through your 20's and 30's getting heavier and having health issues due to your weight. People who haven't been obese don't understand - and that's often their reaction. Make the decision for yourself not for them! Good luck!

Be true to yourself and you can never go wrong!

Personally for myself I thought "well I have lost so much weight prior to surgery maybe I don't need it"

Then I came to my senses and realized I haven't been success on my own in the past so why would I be successful long term now??

Long story short I was true to myself and had surgery and it's quite possibly the best thing I have ever done! Definitely the best thing I have ever done for myself

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
