Hi! Yes yes yes! I am with you! I am scheduled for Aug 21 at 11:30am! Close enough! Let's do this. I live in NJ. Where are you?

Close enough is right! Whoopie I start my one week liquid pre-op Thursday. Southern Minnesota, just south of Minneapolis. My doc likes to have his lapbanders spend the night in hospital, how about you?

I am scheduled for August 27th. Just started my liquid diet today. We can do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, we can. We can, I know we can. We will. I know we will. My surgery (my first EVER) is scheduled for 11 AM. I start my liquid diet Thursday. Thankfully, my doc only required a one week. YEAH, I say that today...ask me about that in 3 or 4 days. :faint:

By the way, what are you drinking today?

Wow - I didn't know you had to do a liquid diet before the surgery! I am still jumping through the hoops to get approved hopefully can have surgery by November (a sure way to make sure I don't pig out at Thanksgiving!)

I had 2 cups of coffee and 1 glass of orange juice for breakfast; lunch was one of those powder protien drinks. I mixed with Water, next time I will use skim milk. I had a yogart for afternoon snack and tomatoe Soup for dinner. Gosh I am hungry!!! But I must do this and I will.

You can do it!

I just discovered SF green tea w/mixed berry and green tea w/citrus. I am trying to replace soda w/non-carbonated.

I am going to try to get extra Protein in EVERYTHING I drink (well, maybe not everything) but, that is supposed to help curb the hunger. I'm thinking, super smoothies, or something similar. Carnation Instant Breakfast, scoop of Protein Powder, banana, frozen strawberries, couple of ice cubes, yogurt....oh, and someone mentioned powdered milk added some good nutrition.

Good luck on jumping through the flaming hoops! My journey has been 5 months and it has gone fairly well. No big surprises, a couple of rescheduled appointments, couple of people on vacations, insurance needing MORE info twice, but all in all, fairly smooth.

It is a difficult time..waiting and planning. I am not a very patient person but, found I needed to be!

Yes, Yes, I am August 23rd also! I am on the liquid diet now for 6 days and the 23rd can't come soon enough. Yesterday was killer, I had a business meeting and the boss ordered pizza and Pasta salad and chocolate cake! It sucked to sit there while my peers eat and I drank my Soup. I have not told anyone at work, no support there, just a bunch of gossips and sharks. But enough of yesterday, today is a great day, I treated myself to a half day of work and got to hang out with my kids all morning. And I am so excited to share my special day with someone!!!!!! It's gonna be awesome on the other side and all of this will be well worth it!

My surgery is scheduled for 7 am. My husband is also trying to fly under the radar. It's not working as well as he probably wants it too! I am very excited and nervous. My final PCP appointment is tommorrow.

Are you on the liquid diet?

9 days and Counting!!!:girl_hug::):D:)

yes, Menci, I am on liquid diet. Sure is hard to do, but I will do it. I am a strong person; stronger than I thought I was. In the past year and half, I have had 3 surgeries on my hip and endured a horrible infection. Through all of that, I did maintain some sanity. So, what is a few hungry pains------right????

Thursday I start a one week full liquid. Some have Clear Liquids only--wow now that would be torture. I'm going to spike up some slim fast w/protein powder, fruit etc. and see how that goes down!

claramae: you have been through a lot over the last several months--you'll be able to breeze right through this little ole' LAP. Good for you-it's amazing that strength comes to us when we call upon it.

Hi PJanes

Today was a bummer, went to the pre-op, and some of the blood tests were funky, dr wants more tests and possible postpone the surgery, He will give me his final recomendation on Fri. It's kind of silly but i am not worried about postponing the surgery, I am worried about extra weeks on the liquid diet or having to repeat the last week of all liquids at sometime in the future. I'm strong but this diet is not easy. I'm waiting til Fri to be truely disapppointed, I am holding out hope that an antibiotic that I was taking just through off the tests.

Ps. Day 3 was the worst one for me on the liquids, make it through that and things get way easier(not great but easier)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
