Ok! So far so good. Had some pain and discomfort coming out of surgery. Took the pain meds a bit to kick in. Had a little nausea a couple of times but the meds work great for that. The pain meds make me a shallow breather when I fall asleep and the machine I was hooked up to liked to remind me of that by beeping real loud. So I got no sleep nast night :( No food for 2 weeks, no Water for almost 48 hrs, and now no sleep has made me an over emotional cranky person.

Good news, had my UGI (barely escaped vomiting during that) and no leakage so Ive graduated on to Clear liquids. I'm way too tired to care though. Hoping to get a nap before I give my first real walk a go. All in all I'm actually not that bad!

Glad to hear that surgery went well! Sorry to hear about the no sleeping bit though. I hope you are able to get some real rest soon.

Congrats!! I had my surgery on Monday. Coming out of anastesia was scary and somewhat painful. The surgery lasted from 7:30-11:30 they woke me up and wanted me to breath in to this tube to get my lungs working, they told me the faster i get to 1000 the faster ill go up to my room, i blew 3500. Took my first walk at 6pm then again at 8 pm and the night nurse told me that she wants me to walk at 5am before her shift is over... I Had the same issue with the machines i would fall asleep and it started beeping. So i asked the nurse to turn it off. Then my IV bag was out, i came home yesterday and went to bed about 1030pm slept till 9am woke up a few times but nothing can beat ur own bed. Good luck! Wishing u a speedy recovery

Congrats! You did it! My husband will be sleeved on May 2. I am pretty nervous for him. I have heard from my Dr's office that the surgery takes about a half hour. Were there complications that made your surgery 4 hours long?

My surgery was an hour and a half. My surgeon said that's his standard time. That included prep but not recovery room. Recovery is 2 hrs standard for my surgeon. I can't answer for her but I think every surgeon just works a little differently.

Yeah and I personally think that there is a bit of exaggeration with their time amount. I've noticed a couple other comments that just seems off lol.

@@SusanB55 I had the bypass not sleeve thats why it took longer. As far as i know there were no complications. I was super nervous before going in, but honestly it wasn't at all as bad as i thought it would be. I was walking a lot, they took the leg compressors off late at night, told me that i don't need oxygen since i seemed to be ok breathing on my own.

Yesterday i went to costco with my mom, probably not the smartest idea, but i could t stay at home anymore. I weight my self today i lost 5lb thats on top of the 5 lb i gained while in the hospital so thats about a 10lb weight loss total since Monday he will be fine, i kept think to my self what the dr. Told me b4 surgery. These surgeries have a smaller risk of dying then driving in ur car for 2 days, he said if u can survive driving for 2 days u will be fine. Every time i was scared i thought about that.

Good luck to ur husband

Thank you Dasha for your kind response :) I am a worry wart by nature, but he is 65, diabetic and has other complications. He has never had major surgery, unlike me. So I worry that this will be a really tough surgery for him.

Four hours is still a lot of time in the operating room! Yikes! How is your pain level right now?

I was just submitted for a band-to-sleeve revision yesterday. I'm scared of everything. Scared of being denied. Scared that when/if my surgeon goes in, he won't sleeve me in the same operation, which is what he does 95% of the time. He is super conservative and likes to do it in two sessions. Ugh, that means two hospital stays, two sets of expenses, two times under general, two times in pain etc. NOT interested in that. I watched so many videos yesterday where the surgeons were doing both in same surgery. These surgeons obviously felt it was safe enough!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
