Hi everyone,

I'm going to see a Psychologist this Thursday to fulfill one of my pre-op requirements. I'm very curious as to what they will ask me. What was your experience with this?

They will have you complete several questionnaires regarding you eating habits, mental health history, substance abuse history. They will then meet with you to review all of that and particularly your expectations with WLS, your knowledge about the surgery (before, during and after), coping with stress, any trauma in the past, etc. It's a good time to ask questions and get some advice. I have an issue with emotional eating and am getting some extra help with that before surgery.

Oh and alot about your previous weight loss attempts, when you became overweight, etc.

Thanks so much for this. Did you have to see the Psychologist more then one time? Or is everything done within one meeting?

Only once to a Psychiatrist for eval but I'm going to a psychologist to help with my emotional eating. I have to go thru 6 months of supervised weight loss for my insurance so I figured I'd get all the tools I can during that time.

Hi! Were they able to give you your results right away or did you have to wait?

i don't think my experience was too typical.

since i already had a good history of seeing a therapist and psychiatrist-i didn't have any issues. i met with a psychiatrist, nutritionist and medical doctor all in one day and at the end the medical doctor reviewed all the notes and said i was a good candidate for surgery and had me set up an appt with my surgeon.

@@debby8892 I think they will tell you the "results" at the end of your evaluation. I had actually asked her for some suggestions for emotional eating and she replied by saying that she thought that would be the only concern she had as well (I'm assuming if I didn't ask - she would have told me at that time). If they don't - I wouldn't hesitate to ask them.

I had never had a psych eval or counseling before so I wasn't sure what to expect. My first counseling appointment for emotional eating is this Thursday. I'm also hoping for a Sept surgery date.

I wanted to chime in. I will also most likely have a September date as well! Even though I'll finish in August I'll have stuff to do before I get a date like insurance approval. I go to my Psych eval May 10th.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
