Curious about how many surgical incisions you had?

Recommended Posts

I find it strange that there are such wide differences in the amount of incisions that people have when getting the same procedure.

Personal, I had three total. One on the left, one on the right and my belly button.

Compared to most people, that seems like the very low end, and that most people have 5 or 6 incisions.

What do you think? And why would this be?

I had 6. But 4 of them are only one cm in length. They need places for the blades, suction, etc. to go through.

I had 3 as well. Surgeon did mine using robotics, not sure if that makes a difference. Talking about VSG I'm assuming.

Six, also robotic assist, that includes an extra incision for the hiatal hernia repair.

I had three tiny ones, the biggest one being on the left side, and it must be max 2 centimeters long.

Sleeve + umbilical hernia repair = 9 small incisions.

I have 5. Anytime you have a laparoscopic or arthroscopic procedure you need portals for the scope & camera, light source, Fluid management, and resection of the tissue.

I had laproscopic VSG and I had the 3 incisions. I know that he did not need to retract my liver, so that may be one that I didn't need.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
