Who did you tell?

Recommended Posts

My husband and I are having gastric bypass. My surgery is scheduled for May 3r (hooray) my husband is waiting till January 1 (insurance deductible reasons). He doesn't want to tell anyone, I don't care who knows, I think people will guess anyway. Just curious who you all told??

I started by just telling my parents and then my mother is able to keep anything a secret so she told my aunt, which I was okay with. I only told my boss at work but when I came back it seemed like everyone knew (my sister also works for the same department so I'm not sure if she told or my boss did), anyway it wasn't a big deal, and everyone was happy for me and thought it was a good thing. Now I honestly dont care who knows, and you are correct, people will guess. There is one girl I see once a month who works in a different clinic and she asked, at first I didn't want to say so I just told her with diet and exercise, which is true, but not completely, its become more a hassle now that I didn't tell her because she asks how I'm doing every time I see her and will always ask again that I'm only doing diet and exercise, I'm too deep in it now to say otherwise, I wish I would have just told the truth in the first place (she is really nice and supportive and now I just feel like a liar).

I basically told everyone even strangers on the street. The reaction of most people fell into two categories. They were either supportive or they were curious.

Some people are very guarded. I believe it has to do with their past dieting history.

First they tell everyone they are going on a diet. They lose some weight. Many people congratulate. Then they get off the diet and gain the weight back and then some and they fell like an abject failure. So I think they are guarded because they equate their expectations from surgery similar to that of dieting.

I told my family first and then two of my close friends. My family is completely supportive! My friend on the other hand asked, "why don't you just work out with me?"

Thanks for all you responses! I think mostly I'll just cross that bridge when I get there. I'm just so happy that it is happening soon!!!

I told my husband, mom, brother, sister and a few friends. Wish I could turn back time and un-tell one friend, she's been difficult, a naysayer and just genuinely not supportive. I won't tell anyone else and I'm comfortable with the choice. I'm 9 months post-op

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
