Hello everyone

I am 52 (53 next month) and I'm scheduled for VGS April 25 th in St Louis, Mo area. I know y'all are already done but I am needing some WLS friends to communicate with. I am only on day 2 of my pre op liquid diet and I can't shake this thought of "what if"! What if this doesn't help me lose. What if my diabetes isn't any better. What if I go through all of this for nothing. Help!!

Hi DRene,

Hope everything went well. I had my sleeve done on April 25th as well. I had mine done in Florida, but live in Ohio. Snow bird. I am 53 yrs old. Excited about my journey.

Welcome!

I am doing great. I still have a long way to go but my life is completely different than it was a year ago.

Patricia, welcome! I was sleeved at 51 and my only regret is not having done it earlier!

was it rough in the first few months? I mean with feeling full and bloated, enough fluids, etc. I feel like I'm struggling a little.

@@denise250 I'm doing great and hope to continue doing the same. I was never in much pain so didn't need pain medication after 2nd day after surgery. I went to my first post op appointment on July 7th and had lost 17 lbs in 2 weeks...I'm in the puree stage and doing good no problems swallowing so far. The only problem for me is getting all my liquids in, it seems like I need more hours in a day but other than that no regrets. Thanks for asking!????

Welcome everyone! I'm Queen of Crop, and am 62....joined this group when I was 58 and was sleeved a few days after my BD....here I am 4.5 years later, still at goal and living a dream life. I wrote a book about my first year, (Queen of Crop). YOu are all in for a fabulous journey! Lots of veterans here....my best advice is enjoy your first year, it's weird, but it's a true honeymoon. As I said, I'm still at goal, but now I have to work (like most normal weight people) to stay here because I can eat a whole lot more now. If I were to do this over again, I would have tried to lose a lot more weight in the first year. I stopped at 138 because I thought that was a good weight for me. Now, 4.5 years out, I think 128 would have been better (and I could easily have lost another 10). Now to keep at 140 is really tough, but I'm doing it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
