Eating crab? Shellfish?

Recommended Posts

I'm three weeks post op, transitioning between puréed and soft foods. tuna, flaky fish, canned chicken are all ok.

This weekend is my anniversary and id love to go to a seafood restaurant. Has anyone had experience with crab? What about the butter?

I had a bite of steak last week and that was a HUGE mistake.

Beef is usually a tough Protein to tolerate. Sometimes a "wet" beef is tolerated better--such as beef made in a crock pot or a stew beef. Wait a while and then try it again.

I have never had a problem with any seafood as long as it is moist. Whether that means a "Newburg" recipe or buttery, seafood is just yummy and sleeve friendly for me.

Just take little bites and be patient. You'll be in no big hurry anyway, right? You'll be celebrating!

Have a wonderful anniversary dinner.

I had scallops and shrimp about three or four weeks post-op. I would've careful with the butter. I found that post-op, fats like mayo and butter made me a little woozie and that a little goes a long way.

Update: crab went well! I ate about 3 snow crab legs. Butter wasn't really necessary. . Success in adding a new food.

Interesting to hear that fats make you woozy. Yes- that's what happened with the bite of steak. I am scared to death to try sweets, but luckily I have no real desire to try for now.

Crab season just started in San Francisco and was on sale at the grocery store for 5 bucks a pound. I ate it with a little bit of cocktail sauce and it was delicious (I still have about 5 ounces left) after eating it 2 days in a row. I am thinking a crab omelet tomorrow :)

I hope you had a nice anniversary and enjoyed your seafood meal.

Regarding eating a bite of steak at two weeks post-op, that was a little early. Follow your post-op plan.

I'll be a week post-op as of tomorrow. A month post-op I'll be traveling to Jamaica 5/9 for vaca/friend's destination wedding. Hoping I'd be able to enjoy foods/seafoods by then. Anyone believe that would be possible?

By a month post-op I was on soft foods. As long as you stick with soft fish or seafood you should be fine if that is the stage you are on.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
