Kranky thank you so much. This is so helpful! Now for your flinstone Vitamins do you take the flintstones complete? So I had one nutritionist tell me just one a day. Then the other day at my pre op class the nutritionist said "flintsones are made for kids" lol I felt like an idiot the way she said it. My other nutritionist told me one a day and take it with my kids so we're in the routine together. So then the new NUT said you can take it but I'd have to take 2. So you are taking 2 of them one during the day and one at night. My instructions on the label of the Vitamin says adults and children over 4 take 1 a day. I'm going to have to ask call them and double check as well. That's what I bought so I'm glad I'm not the only one.

My nutritionist recommended Flinstones complete. One in the morning and one in the evening. I assume the extra one is because we aren't eating a balanced diet at this point and that will help make sure we get some of the necessary nutrients we aren't getting from food.

Great Question!!

Ok for me personally things to have on hand at home:

*Timer so you can drink every 10 minutes – phone works too

*Several pairs of comfy pants/shorts – I changed frequently during the day

* Things to do at home – movies, Netflix agenda, books, etc…

* Set up of where you are going to sleep – couch, bed, etc…

Shopping:

*Protein shakes

* Water – if you don’t like your own Water

* Clear liquids to drink (you will get sick of water)

* I personally bought Isopure and mixed it with equal parts of Powerade Zero and water (gave me some Protein in the first few days)

*sugar free Jello

* sugar free popsicles

* Sugar free fudge sticks

*chicken broth

Good Luck!!!

Talk to me about Isopure I'm hearing mixed reviews. What flavor did you buy and where did you get it?

My doctor recommended that I buy the "New whey" brand liquid Protein. One small tube has 42 grams of Protein so you need 2 small tubes a day in most cases and all of your protein is covered. You can mix them with Water if they are too strong tasting for your preference. They are supposed to come in really handy in the first weeks after your surgery when you may be having a hard time consuming enough to get in all your protein.

How did the New Whey brand taste? Is it really heavy? I bought something in a small bottle at CVS and it was awful. I really like the Syntrax nector so if they taste like that I would be interested. Also do you split it up into 2 drinks? I thought you could only absorb 30 g of Protein in an hour.

@@taramarie523,

You’ve gotten some good advice here! I’d add in a hand blender or food processor so your pureed foods diet is easier. Also, I’d suggest not loading up on TOO much flavored Protein powder/shakes, although you do want some, since your tastes can change after surgery. Let’s see, you might also want some unflavored powder and bouillon so you can have a change from the sweet taste of chocolate and vanilla Protein shakes. You might want some Water flavoring drops or flavored water, too, just to give yourself a break from plain Water while you’re trying to get in your fluids.

Good luck!

I had my surgery Thursday 4/7 and I am 2nd day home. Wow! Had no clue what was truly coming... I have a question- am I supposed to be taking my Calcium chews? I forgot to ask before I left the hospital. I am taking Flintstones Complete two a day... but I totally forgot about the calcium chews???

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
