Goodwill shopping help

Recommended Posts

Ok. I admit it. I've never been to a goodwill store. I've had them

Pick things up, and I've dropped off to Salvation Army.

Are the prices really good? Quality?? I hate sounding like a snob- I'm not- but the Salvation Army stores are just plain yuck. The clothes are all musty smelling and often dirty still.

Is it worth it? Tips and tricks? I'm

Only 2 weeks post op today and my yoga pants are falling off me. And I need more tops!

Goodwill has been a Godsend for me! You need to have time to look through stuff and try it on. My local Goodwill stores are nicely organized and clean. I have found some stylish clothes there for affordable prices. They do take returns but you get a store credit.

Thank you! I'm guessing that depending on the location of each store the merchandise might be of higher or lower quality.

I have been shopping at Burks, Ross, and even found a few things at Walmart for new clothes that are priced about the same as goodwill.

You know your own standards and tastes. The best way to find out if any source suits you is to go and browse for yourself. I don't go to Goodwill here because the clothes are not sorted by size and I'm not of a temperament to browse endlessly for what may be no reason. You may do better to go to stores in higher-end neighborhoods or those that are in transition.

I just came back- nada. They were well sorted though and in the lower sizes there was a somewhat decent selection. But all in all the outing was a bust[emoji53]

Goodwill is one of those places that people check from time to time 'just in case.' New things are always being donated. You can ask whether they have a particular day when new things go out on the floor or, probably more useful, if there is a particular day when donations are most plentiful and how long it takes to get those things out.

I live in Florida and we have a couple Goodwill Bluetique stores. They have new clothes (several designer) & accessories that are donated from local boutiques. I've found most of my cute things at Ross, Kohl's and Beall's.

I haven't gone to any thrift stores because they are not convenient for me but I love and always check out Target clearance racks

We have local resale shops where people bring their nicer things to consign. You might want to google around your area, because they have really nice quality/brands in the local ones around me. And they are separated by size and type, and they also have really great bags (Coach, etc)...

I wear leggings constantly from Walmart, good price for me. They look good as my weight goes down. Then I rent clothes from an online site so I can change the sizes as I change and get fresh looks.

You rent clothes??? From where? That's amazing! I have lived in Danskin capris for years. Almost feel like it is a uniform. But, I do need more yoga pants so I may be headed back to buy some in smaller sizes.

I love Goodwill! It has been a wonderful resource for inexpensive, quality clothes as I have gone down 10 full sizes. I have noticed that if you have multiple Goodwill's where you live, some are going to be better than others. If you're in a store, ask the clerks where they think the best stuff can be found. Some neighborhoods donate far nicer things than others. Veteran Goodwill shoppers know where these stores are.

Some Goodwill's size their clothes on the racks. It just depends on the location. There are also some thrift stores like Value Village and Bargain Hunters that size their clothing.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
