How fast did you return to work ? I am not telling anyone at my job . Not embarrassed in any way at all . I just don't feel it's anyone's business . My support system is at home . My plan is to NOT request time off of work and just call and say I had appendicitis or something and take off 2 weeks. Would that be enough time ??

I have a desk job...

I had the op on Wed...

Left hospital Saturday...

Had zero complications...

Could have comfortable returned to work on the Monday...

However...

I do have a high pain threshold...

So that MAY have had some bearing...

Also, I took the following week of 'just in case'...

I have a desk job, went back after 1 week of recovery. you'll be fine. you better research up on appendicitis tho cuz it's pretty common and people know the signs lol! I didn't tell anyone at work either.

Approx 70% of my way to goal after 13 months...

That puts a better perspective on it than giving you the actual numbers, which are somewhat misleading...

I mean, the job can't ask why you're taking off work. Just say medical reason, that's all they need to know. I don't even know if you have to say medical reason.

I have a desk job. I ended up needing 1 week, and then for the next 3 weeks I worked 6 hour days while I recovered.

If possible I would ask for FMLA. HR will know what's going on but they are not allowed to talk about it to anyone. Your manager would only know that you have FMLA, not the reason. The coworkers shouldn't know anything.

This way if you were to be one of those who had some complication or slow recovery your job is safe and you are protected.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
