One year out 80lbs down. Why can't I lose

Recommended Posts

I would call my activity level moderate. I lift weights a couple of times per week and either walk at about 3.6 mph on a treadmill with a large incline or do an elliptical machine three to four times per week. I am not a small boned person. Don't know what my fat percentage is though. My doctor never really set a weight goal for me, but my personal goal has always been to get to 145. As I said though, I wouldn't been too unhappy to stay where I am, but am just terrified of gaining. My (maybe unreasonable) logic is that if I can't figure out why I can't lose, I may start gaining and not be able to do anything about that either.

I can definitely sympathize with the fear of regain. It's been so hard for me to increase my calories intentionally, because I still have such an irrational fear of gaining weight. With your activity level, I'm inclined to think your calorie intake is too low. But I can see how you might be terrified to try to up it a little and see what happens.

Hi, I am 5'9 and had surgery March 8, 2013. I lost 100 lbs within 9 months. By my 1 year mark I lost a total of 140 lbs. I would definitely suggest tracking using my fitness pal and make sure you are getting your Protein in. I learned in order to lose , I had to eat. It's a hard mindset since eating is what caused me to be 292 lbs. Good luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
