Down and Blue in Alabama

Recommended Posts

I am on my 45gm carb restriction waiting for a surgery date for April.

Today I woke up feeling very down. I feel like I am in a prison (obesity) and on work program to get released early (the Sleeves program). I work so hard and then I still am in this PRISON. This work release has no ending. I can Not see the light at the end of the tunnel. Is the prison warden just screwing with me.

Is it just easier to give up and eat the French fries, cheese cake, the fettuccine Alfredo.

My 5y daughter told me I am fat and that I have a fat belly. My husband told her to not say that and she said "well daddy she is fat"

I went to my mom and dad (which are divorced and don't agree on anything ) mom thought it was funny and dad blamed me for teaching her that the word "fat" was exceptible word you say.

Idk what to do. Of course it's Saturday. Rainy and I'm home by myself thinking about all of this over and over.

Idk what to do.

Hang in there. April is right around the corner. Waiting for surgery is hard and you are right- obesity is a prison. There is light at the end of the tunnel. This time next year things will be so different you can't even imagine!!

Use this time to be kind to yourself. Change is on its way!!

Go for a walk, even in the rain. Sitting around stewing in life doesn't fix anything. Put your mind to something else.

I would have never dreamed to ever tell my mom she was fat, even at 5 I knew better.

I'm on Day 6 of my 30gm Carb diet. My surgery is 11 days away. Hang in there! I felt this way yesterday. Ended up sobbing and yelling at everyone in the house. Then I got over it.

Your just waiting for a date? You are already doing your pre-op ?? it will happen soon what i would do is call your doc office and tell them to give you a date now. you should have your date already if they put you on your pre-op diet?

We won't leave you alone!

Pre-op and waiting for my surgery really was the worst part of the whole process for me. The uncertainty and having no idea what to expect can produce a lot of fear and anxiety.

Do you have a counselor or therapist? Have you attended any support group meetings?

One thing that helps me is to take a shower, brush my teeth, paint my nails, etc. to just DO something rather than sit and stew.

If you are able, a walk is a great idea as was suggested above.

You CAN get through this and there is definitely a light at the end of the tunnel. I am almost a year post-op and can't even begin to describe how great it is to have hope, see progress, experience miracles, and get my life back.

I don't have a therapist but I have gone to support meeting. I was torn at what felt at that meeting. There were post op ppl that were great and then there were pre op ppl. A lot of them came in (>400lbs) bringing in McDonald cups and food. I felt like it was a betrayal to all the work we were doing. It was hard to sit there

I am so sorry to hear that the food distracted you.

I learned a long time ago that I can only "do me", but can imagine how uncomfortable you were. There is a reason the pre-op folks were the team. We have all struggled with food and come to the process at different levels of knowledge, skills, abilities, and commitment.

My program has support groups split up by where people are in the process so you don't encounter that kind of thing.

Once you have had surgery and are eating again, you can easily ignore other people's bad food choices.

Maybe skip that in person group for a while.

Also people are jerks, I would bring food to a meeting like that. It is rude on so many levels.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
