weight loss time span

Recommended Posts

okay so I have my surgery Tuesday and I've been researching to ease my nerves and curiosity.

I know everyone is different. I'm fully aware that no two people are the same and it depends on your weight and age and how much you have to lose and all that but how much weight did you lose in like 3 months? going to the beach in June and I am trying to see if I should look forward to being skinnier or probably won't notice much difference by then?

You will likely have dropped significant weight by then if you follow the surgeon/nutritionist's directions...

Whether or not it's noticeable will depend on where you lose it from and where you're carrying the weight...

Just do EVERYTHING in your power to follow directions and you'll see changes...

Everyone doesn't lose at the same rate and other factors also play into that as well. Age, gender, how much you weighed starting out, etc - so whatever responses you get don't get upset if you don't meet or exceed those losses. Some exercise as soon as possible, others cant because of other issues, some cannot eat a lot (post-op diets vary immensely), others can - a lot of variables in play post-op.

Follow your doctors guidelines, Protein, Water, move and you will be very happy regardless I am sure :D

I lost a little over 55lbs from day of surgery weight, I am 53.

I lost 40 lbs in the first 3 months. I started out as a heavy weight and I think that most people would have considered me a slow loser.* I was happy and my medical team was happy with my progress.

*Yes, I stayed in strict compliance with one of the strictest programs I've seen detailed here. I wasn't a slow loser because I was chowing down on oatmeal and mashed potatoes, I promise you.

In three months I was down around 30 pounds. I want to STRONGLY advise you against setting any time-based weight loss goals. It is a recipe for disaster. There are a lot of things you CAN control post-op, but rate of loss is not one of them. You should focus on setting goals around the things you can control. Set goals around getting your Protein and Water, tracking your food, getting in X number of fitness minutes per week, etc. Those goals will motivate you and keep you moving in the right direction without making you frustrated and crazy.

Without any stats on what your height and weight are now it is really hard to guage.

In 3 months? It is unlikely you will have lost a ton of weight. In the beginning after surgery your body is healing from the trauma of surgery. Once your body heals some and recovers from the trauma of surgery, you start to lose weight, and lose it more rapidly. Also you need to get to a point where you can intake more calories so your body doesn't think it is starving.

My first month, 3rd month 4th month, and 6th month were my biggest loss months. Weight loss isn't always a continual downward slope. This is my chart for the past 8 months.

If you are setting yourself up right now that you will have lost enough weight in 3 months that you will look like xyz at the beach, you are putting too much pressure on yourself. You might not even lose weight from the places you think at first. A lot of people are disappointed with their early loses, look around, there are plenty of complaints, but it isn't about the short term, it is about the long term. I was disappointed I "only" lost 21 lbs the first month, but losing month after month, not back tracking and not adding, adds up to huge loses in the long term.

In three months there will be a big difference. You will likely feel much thinner no matter what your actual losses end up being.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
