Wow you did so good with the lapband. Thank you so much for your positive response. I am very hopeful that this time around will be successful. Let me know when you get approved and your surgery date. It feels so good to have someone know what I'm going through.

Wow listening to you all is really helpful and encouraging. I was banded in 2007 lost some weight I think it was mostly due to liquid diet after surgery, been struggling with it ever since. I have been feeling like a failure for many years now with it. I moved so I had to go to another dr for follow up, he made me feel that it was my fault that I don't know how to use the band, I had lots of heartburn so we emptied the band.... And I never went back to that dr. A year went by, more weight came on... I finally decided I have had enough and started doing research on revision surgery even though I was terrified. I was shocked to learn that revisions are very common now, so many people have issues with them (the band) and many surgeons don't even offer it anymore. Before I learned this I felt like I was all alone in the world and that it was my fault that I could not make it work. My husband has been telling me for years to get this band removed because I would have all these stuck episodes, be in so much pain and still obese. So finally I made up my mind, found a new doctor last August who is great, but about an hour drive, well worth it... Did all insurance requirements and now 2nd week into insurance review... Really hoping for approval on the first try, if they do approve I most likely will be having surgery in May as well. I already have my pre op clearances scheduled for mid April. Cannot wait to get this done and start over again and hopefully this time get there and stay there. I so appreciate everyone sharing your experiences and stories, definitely need this support!

Heather,

Definitely! Glad to know we are not alone:) I am still nervous about the revision and I am sure I will be freaking out before surgery but I am not letting fear stop me. I actually regret not get bypass done first time around.

Looks like me and you are on the same schedule I am also 2nd week into insurance review:) this wait is a drag... They told me it could take up to 30 days to review, I am ok with them taking time as long as it comes back approved lol

Usernamtaken and heatherg0907 we all have similar stories. I am waiting on my insurance decision for the revision. I can't eat real food most days and this band has been more of a hassle than help. My last surgeon stopped using the band. My last appointment he called in nurses to see what the needle looked like for a fill. My new surgeon is now concerned with a slip and erosion. I am grateful for all the support in this forum

Yaaay for another one of us:) what are the symptoms that you have of possible erosion? I am concerned about this as well because my surgeon said if I have erosion he would remove the band I would have to heal then do the bypass and I want to do both in one which is what he normally does. He said that I don't have signs of erosion so he is not worried but I am still concerned that i am going to wake up and find out they didn't do revision :(

Hi!!! So glad to talk to you! My surgeon told me that my band was way way overfilled for too long. My initial surgery report had that on the day of surgery I already had over 2cc in my band. He said that should have never happened. I had close to 8 cc at one point. I lost 90 pounds, not long after my weight loss, I started worrying because I was actually still hungry. which leads him to believe there may be erosion but there could be slippage too because of the reflux and vomiting now ️. I just want to be able to eat food again. I am scheduled for a upper endoscopy, Barium swallow, and gastric emptying test. I live off slider food because anything else gets stuck and you know what happens then. I was stuck on yogurt 2 weeks ago, it's pretty much been a roller coaster of things. I really hope you don't have erosion. I am pulling for you :) one surgery is more than enough.

It's nice to talk to you. Crazy how the band messed so many of us up. I'm praying you get the approval soon and can feel better. I never had reflux but I do vomit almost everyday with the band and still manage to gain weight because I too can only eat slider foods. Good luck and please keep me updated!!

I too, regret not just doing the bypass the first time around so I understand how you are feeling. I had a ton of gas pains with the band and they lasted for a few months in my shoulders so I'm not looking forward to that again but I wouldn't let that stop me. I'm determined to succeed at this and live a much better life. Don't be nervous, we got this!!! So happy to have found this forum and meet some people in the same boat I am.

Back in November I was vomiting a lot. Even in my sleep. I had to go to a new place for my band cause my original place closed. So the new surgeon sent me in for an upper GI. Come to find out I had a grossly enlarged esophagus and hiatal hernia and my band we over constricted. I went back to the surgeon the following week and he had to pull out all my Fluid. Keep in mind my band was a 10cc and he pulled out almost 11cc. He was like how on earth where you eating? I was like slider foods and lots of vomiting. Needless to say we discussed in having it removed because he absolutely hates the band and with my GERD and heart burn so bad again I am ready for this band to come out. Oh and btw I have gained 35 pounds since November. Just really sad and depressing. I have even been dieting and I can't get if off. Ugh.

It is just so crazy to me to hear all these stories after all this time of me thinking I was all alone. I had my band I filled in December and the dr was amazed at how full it was. They got almost 11cc out of mine too. I do feel better since he removed to Fluid but I have also gained some weight. I am pretty proud of myself because I have been walking around 4 miles a day and I've been really watching what I'm eating but still no weight loss. It makes it very discouraging and at times I want to give up. But I don't because I know it is going to help me out after my surgery. I truly do know how you feel. I'm here if you want to talk.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
