Exercise Challenge! Go for the Gold!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everybody!!

First of all, Dawn, that is just super-amazing! Keeping to a rigorous training schedule with little kids and a demanding job is more than I can comprehend. Go for it!!

The BIG news is that Julie an I met up for yummy Thai food in NYC! (Thanks, Betty) I can still taste the curry dish (in a good, imaginative way...not in a reflux way.)

AND I can still see Julie's gorgeous face, smile and tiny tight body.

Julie, you are just a dream girl! You have everything going for you and deserve all of the good that has and will come your way.

It was so fun to finally meet and laugh.

I did not run/walk the half in NY, which means another trip must be planned. I did run in the park two days, which were breathtakingly beautiful!! And I did fit in many miles of pounding the pavement. Oh, I miss New York already.

Two years ago I spent a fortune on a single hand-beaded scarf/work of art in Saks. I could not fit a thing and figured that at least I could always look good in a scarf. This time I bought too many cheap little tops at H & M, just because they fit. I also bought two pairs of gorgeous heels that would have been disastrous prior to the banding.

So I am SO happy to have celebrated my 2-year bandiversary. I can't wait to see where I will be in another year!

Thank you, my friends, for all of the continued encouragement. We don't need to have a weight loss to report to find value here. This is a safe place to vent, and a place where we can encourage each other to keep moving and setting goals!

Julie!!!!! OMG!!!!! Congrats to you!!!!!

I have an appointment to see a plastics guy, just for TT next month. But, I am asking the ministry of health (Canada!) to pay and it might happen.

Besides that I am in training again, and hoping to do the Ottawa Marathon- we'll see, I just came off a 30 km run so I am doing my first long run (20 km) this weekend. I'll only sign up for Ottawa if it feels good... might not be enough time!!

You guys are all so great.

Julie, congrats on reaching goal, I too am so impressed. Ok, and jealous too, I admit it, lol. I am just now finally getting back on track after all the problems I had last year. The good news is, I joined a gym last week. My dd and dh are going with me and we love it. Having it be a "family outing" is making it so much more fun.

reporting in my walk (shhhh, i even ran a tad) for the day. i went 5.96 miles.. had DH drop me off at the gym while he had a training session and i walked home. it's so different going on pavement vs. a dreadmill... loved it!!

i felt fabulous. of course now my feet/toes are in some pretty major pain (didnt help to have DD stomp on them twice today )

how is everyone else doing?

susan, great job going to the gym... it is a lot more fun when you do it as a family!

dawn - let us know how the TT appt goes ... it really has changed my outlook (ok, yes, i look at other imperfections, but such is life...)

My bandsterbaby JULIE did it! I'm so happy and proud of you Julie! So awsome to do so on your bandaversary....................you continue to amaze us all...................on with your wonderful long, happy, healthy, skinny life! Sounds like you and Boo had a great time meeting in NYC..................I can't wait to get back there also.............just loved our trip last year.

I'm trudging along..........about the same..............down a couple of pounds, not as fast as I'd like, but then it's because I just can't get to eat as little as I did when I was losing regularly.............I'll get back down...............had a rough couple of weeks visiting my very elderly uncle who is on his way to a better place..............it's taking him too long tho, poor guy wants to be with my auntie already! Went to visit the last 2 week-ends (in the Tri-Cities area of Washington - 7 hour round trip).........

Our kids are coming in from Sacramento to be with us for this Passover week-end and we're having 25 or so for our Sedar dinner on Sat eve.................busy, shopping and cooking.............fun, but I'm thinking maybe one of my kids will have to start doing this soon.........they're not exactly into it as much as I am, so I keep doing it every year! Happy Spring/Passover to all.

Love, Betty

Okay so I was banded in Feb, and I said as soon as I feel good I'm gonna work out, this is going to be great right?? Well easier said than done, after making excuses for not getting to the gym for 2 months, I woke up at 4:30 this morning and got into the gym. Geeze did it feel great! I worked out for 45 mins and I had so much energy this morning I can't wait to get up and do it again tomorrow morning. I don't know why I've been full of excuses, I think I just get intimidated at the gym aka meat market, but I just put my IPOD on turned it up and did not pay attention to anyone else!:tt1:

Hey, losingjusme, GREAT RUN!! Your distance is increasing pretty quickly.

Julie, remember when I predicted about 18 months ago that you would get to my goal before I would? Well? Haha! I was right!

Betty, I hope you had a nice time with your family

Dawn...wow, I hope the TT works out. I am very envious, but a coward.

Susan, I love hearing from you! It brings back good memories of the beginnings of our banded group. Since I have slowed down, I feel like I'm starting over.

Next week I begin rehearsals for a show. I'll be dancing (more like singing with choreography)!! Great motivation to lose weight, considering one of the costumes is YELLOW...yikes!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
