On occasion...I will have some roasted almonds. Even rarer times cashews or macadamia.

I was told no nuts for the first 3 months. They fell into the "crunchy" category and I was not allowed anything crunchy for 3 months.

Since then I have eaten lots and lots and lots of peanuts. You need to be careful, because they are very high in calories. That's actually why I eat them. Since I reached my goal weight, I've struggled to not keep losing and nuts are a great way fro me to get extra calories in.

I didn't start eating nuts until I was closer to 6 months out (I think -- how quickly I forget!).

Now, I eat pistachios, almonds, and peanuts fairly regularly. I have had cashews a couple of times.

I just have to be careful with portion size by either buying individually portioned bags or carefully pre-portioning a larger container.

Yep. I always weigh mine on my food scale. Soooo easy to overdo it with nuts and they are so high in calories. You have to be pretty careful with them.

I eat 1oz weighed out of pecans or cashews everyday. Usually in the morning after my meds.

There's no reason you can't have them down the road. Just have to be mindful. They are a good source of Protein and healthy fats.

Nuts are healthy and offer some good health benefits. Just be careful of the calories and measure your servings.

If you eat them one at a time, instead of a few at a time, they are a good way to satisfy between-meal hunger.

Here's some info on some common nuts and seeds.

I have a few roasted almonds. I can't stomach more than 4 lol but it's a nice treat. Macadamia nuts would be my down fall. I used to love those!!! Haven't tried one post surgery

I would avoid these during the soft foods period, as nuts are very hard. Also, they are quite fatty. Of course those are healthy fats, but while your stomach is still healing I wouldn't indulge in fats. Another choice that avoids both issues are legumes - black, kidney, navy and garbanzo Beans (chickpeas). These are fairly soft once cooked well, and a healthy source of Protein and soluble fiber!

When nuts are available, I have trouble resisting them. Even worse, I keep going back for more until they're done. And THAT'S dangerous! During the first 18 months it didn't seem to matter, but in maintenance, it may cause some weight gain which then needs to be handled. Almonds are more filling, and easier for portion-control than peanuts. Bottom line: nuts are okay if you can keep them in moderation, but that can be difficult.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
