Howdy from Texas... Banded May 31, 2007

Recommended Posts

My name is Jennifer and I was banded May 31, 2007 in Bryan TX by Dr. John Mason. So far I have lost 22.5 lbs. I have had 3 fills totaling up to 2.5 cc (I have 4 cc band). I didn't notice much restriction until the second fill and after the third one this week (Tuesday 7/31/07) I'm really noticing it. I am so glad that I had this procedure. It was a 2 yr journey just to get approved with my insurance since they had so many requirements, but luckily everything worked out and so far I haven't had any problems with the band.

Hi everyone, my DH and I are getting things in order to undergo our banding procedures Oct. 1 in Mexico by Dr. Jose Rodriguez. We are planning on going on the low carb diet Sept. 1 to get a head start on the weight loss journey. We are so excited. Finally, after a lifetime of severe obesity and many problems associated with it we have a chance at normal lives. I am relying on the advise and encouragement of the new friends I hope to make here to help get us over the rough spots. I hope someday I too can give inspiration and advise to others who know the pain and heartbreak of living an obese life.

Thanks in advance, Klovermom

Hi fellow Texan! Best of luck. Sounds like you are well on the way to a new life. Keep up the good work! Oct. 1 can't come fast enough for me so hopefully we can keep in touch and compare stories very soon. I live in Temple, not too far from Bryan. We chose Mexico for the price and Dr. Rodriguez for his excellent reputation. He will also be doing our fills. He only charges $100 and uses fluro so we can be assured everything stays in the right place and no complications develop.

Congratulations!!! And starting a low-carb program before the surgery is the best way to go about it. I only did mine for 2 weeks but I was on glucophage and so my liver wasn't storing fat anyway....

Hello

I noticed that you are from Temple. Well I was banded 23 jul in Austin by dr Ganta. Still a tiny little bit sore, but doing very well. I live in Harker Heights, maybe we can communicate. There is a new support group in Killeen, but I have not visit them yet. Do you know if there is one in Temple. Good to know you are doing well. Yvette.

hi, Jennifer I too was banded on May 31st in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I love my band. I have a large band and have only 1 fill at 4ccs. My next appointment for fill is August 14th. I have some restriction but I find myself getting a little hungry lately. I would love the scales to start going down again, but maybe after my next fill!

My doctor used the small band (4cc). At first I was afraid it was going to work because after the 2nd week I was extremely hungry and even felt hungry after my first fill. But my doctor assured me that it was normal, that not everyone was the same. After the second fill, again 1 cc, I noticed more restriction than before, but yet I was still hungry. I have had my 3rd fill of .5 cc and this one really did it. I did the recommended liquids for 24 to 36 hours and just today (Friday) am able to eat a little around lunch time. I continue to drink the liquid Protein Drinks (that's usually my breakfast). But in the evenings I guess my band finally opens up and I'm able to get a little more down. I know when I first had the surgery I was stuck at having lost only 13 lbs. and I stayed at that number for what seemed like forever. But now I've lost a little more. I've even been able to go down 2 sizes, which I had never done before with any diet I had ever been on. Good luck to you.

Hi in Harker Heights!! Glad to "meet" you. I do not know of a support group here, actually have not even thought about it, but that might be a great idea. I work 4-midnight most evenings so socialization is difficult except via the internet. I would be most happy to talk to you in person anytime and compare stories, ideas, etc. If I knew how to send a private email with contact information I would, I will look into that.

In the meantime, I am really looking forward to getting to know you better here. My chubby hubby and I are really looking forward to the upcoming band journey.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
