Hello everyone,

I just registered here because I need help. I'm two weeks post-op (February 16). I cannot eat. The first two weeks were a massive struggle to get Protein in. I could not swallow liquid Protein, they are gave me nausea, so I ate vegetable Soup (blended of course) and drank Water. Monday this week, I had the staples removed and pretty much go called an idiot by the nurse (she was not wrong). So I moved on to the pureed foods, the first thing I tried was Greek yogurt never had before but I have trouble going through the portion, it can take me up to 40 minutes. I am not hungry at all. The only thing I can eat again in about 40 minutes is my two scrambled eggs with cheese and apple sauce. Has anybody else felt this way? On Monday I had actually gained 4 pounds because according to the nurse my body was going into starvation mode..... I'm seriously freaking out.

Thanks for any help or advice!

Are you eating the 2 scrambled eggs with cheese and applesauce together? I'm 3 months out almost and couldn't eat that much yet.

eggs are a good soft food, or try cottage cheese, refried Beans (blended), tuna or chicken salad blended, chili (chicken or regular) blended, etc.

It will be difficult to get all your Protein in during the first few weeks without tolerating any Protein drinks. Have you tried Syntrax Nectars? They mix with Water and are like a koolaid type drink. Or you can buy unflavored Protein powder and mix it in with your foods.

The first few weeks I had a horrible time getting in liquids. My doctor didn't make us start Protein Drinks until 3 weeks out. You're still very swollen from your surgery, so give yourself time to heal and patience. Eat what you can, but don't sweat the fact you're not eating much. Right now, just focus on hydration. Make sure you get that Fluid. Dehydration is the worst! As time goes on you'll see that eating won't be as painful. I noticed that warmer foods sat better with me. Soup, refried Beans, sweet mashed potatoes, ECT.

Oh no not together, that's a day'so worth of food. Scrambled eggs are seriously some of the only food that don'the make me queasy. I'very ordered some liquid Protein that are more like juices, maybe that'Lloyd make it easier to get proteinsome in my system and not suffer from great weakness.

I'mean at that point where I'might wondering what the heck I'very done to myself.

Thanks guys :-)

Protein has really been a struggle for me as well. I was sleeved on Feb. 8. I went a couple days with maybe 10-20 grams of protein and I picked up a couple pounds.

My surgeon drilled into me the importance of protein and I got in maybe 45 grams and pow 3 lbs came off in two days.

I'm only a little ahead of you but we must remember why we did this and just stick with the program. If we do, it will work, as evidenced by all the vets on this site.

Blegh. Stupid stupid protein!

My surgeon had me on liquids only the first 2 weeks. When food was allowed, it was 1/2 egg and a bite of toast. What staples did you have removed? Did they do your surgery open? And BTW, the nurse is the one who sounds like an idiot. You should be starving yourself the first 2 weeks. We have plenty to live off of. Honestly, when I read some of these comments about certain groups and nurses, I am SO grateful for my surgeon and the program he runs. Talk to the DR. Maybe the nurse is confused. Good luck.

Rte837, the surgeon had put staples on the laparascopic cuts and they were taken out two seeks after the surgery.

Thanks again ☺

I am only 5 days out, but I haven't had a problem getting in Protein shakes or Water. (I have, though, heard of many, many people who do, so you are not alone. The nurse is there to help you overcome issues, not to make you feel bad for having them!) We all have issues -- mine is pain. I am afraid I'm going to be called a drug addict because I should be off pain killers by now and instead I'm thinking of asking for something stronger. So everyone's got something to make things difficult in the beginning.

If you literally can't eat more than a couple of foods without getting queasy, maybe they aren't controlling your nausea well enough. Painkillers (if you're still using them) cause nausea in a lot of people. Maybe they can give you some Zofran to keep you from throwing up until your new pouch settles down. These are the kind of things you should feel comfortable discussing with your nurse. Making you feel stupid then sending you on your way with no resolution is dereliction of duty, in my opinion. Maybe an appointment with your surgeon is in order, or your PCP.

I'm right there with you struggling with zero drive to eat anything. After feeling great on pureed foods I had a setback with some refried beans- I may never eat them again. What worked for me was stepping back and doing a day of just liquids (which for me did include a Protein shake- although it took FOREVER to get it down) and then restarting pureed foods. That seemed to help get things settled. Hang in there.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
