The second most painful experience of my life..omg...this was bad

Recommended Posts

I called again... you will love this. I will hear back from the medical assistant within the next 48 hours to determine where I am on the "triage" and getting an appointment. Wow, who knew urologists were such a rare breed that you must be screened to get in. I am going to make some more phone calls.

Meantime, i am a little woozy on pain meds, trying to work and noticing that the knife wound feeling stab in my lower left gut is holding steady... not better but not worse I was hoping for better. Keeping fingers crossed as I do not want to be back in the ER!

Hope you're feeling better now! That pain is indescribable, I know. I've had two kidney stone episodes in my past. Try drinking some cranberry juice. That always helped me.

*hugs* I really hope you feel better soon - I remember right before I had my gall bladder removed rolling on my bed in pain... I dealt with the minor pain of it for almost 6 years before I had insurance to get rid of it... then a few months after I had my lap band put in - I couldn't even walk or move because of the pain...

I hope you find a urologist who isn't on the ED referral list. SMH. There's just too much pain to make people wait. I don't understand it but I know it happens regularly.

Also, you might call your insurance and ask if they want to continue to cover ED visits or help you into a specialist in the next 48 hours. Clinics contract for levels of care and I'm thinking the triage is figuring out from ED report how severe you are and then matching that to the insurance contact for "urgent need" versus "routine". I hope I'm wrong.

Ok, got the "triage call". They were fully booked but due to reports from hospital getting me in at lunch hour tomorrow. Yeah!!!

Here is the bad news, pain is ticking upward. I accelerated last dose of meds by an hour because I was starting to cry. I plan to make it and avoid ER but I have about 19 hours till appointment...

Also got more details. I have either 2 big ones or one REALLY big one. Scan was unclear on that.

Are you taking any ibuprofen with the pain meds? Do things like ice or heat help? Standing on your head?

I've never had stones.

I hope they are able to give you relief tomorrow.

@@CBT lol!

Pain meds are IB and percoset. Heat makes it worse, I have not tried cold yet.

What works best and maybe this is my imagination - but being heavily drugged and trying to doze.

The pain is like a knife stab in the lower ab, pain is deep inside....that spreads from there around the back and abs. I am doing ok, maybe about a 4 - 5 pain scale right now and my back is really achy too.

If it gets worse...might consider the handstand option. :)

Oh boy, I hope you have LOTS of drugs to get you through this ! I'm so sorry you have to deal with the pain AND the hospital crap ! If this is any help , your story has been a strange coincidence for me, as I have been dealing with mild pain spreading around my back today, and feeling lousy etc. I did have a minor gallbladder problem 2 years ago, but your story has me keeping my mind open for other possibilities. I see my Dr, in a few days, hoping it's a small problem. Hope your problem gets taken care of SOON, and no more hospital run around ! Keep us posted ! And thanks for the detailed story, I honestly had no idea about kidney stones etc. Eye. Opening. Sending you lots of support !!

So sorry to hear of the amount of pain your in and that you have to wait so long to see the Dr. I sure hope once you do they treat that stone or stones and break them apart so you can pass it. I have never had a child or kidney stones. I have had gallbladder pain and can't imagine pain worse then that. Let us know what happens at the Dr's office. Good luck hope you come home pain free.

I just got back from the urologist - so glad I went as I have peace of mind, understand what to expect and what to do as follow up. Good news is it has been about 24 hours since I was last doubled over in pain. I have an emergency number now in case things go south over the weekend. Later, I will post more details about what I learned as this whole thing is brand new to me!

I'm anxious to hear what your urologist said. I have a huge kidney stone in my right kidney. Next week they are doing an ultra sound on my kidney and liver. I get an x ray once a year to see if it's moving or getting any bigger.

I've already had what you have and had the procedure where they blasted my left kidney to break up the huge stone so I could pass it.

My urologist said it's so important to keep the Water up so I don't form more.

Kidney stones are horrible and I'm so sorry you're going through this. I hope they blast it soon so you don't have to deal with the pain!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
