Gastric Stricture Anyone

Recommended Posts

I am 12 wks post surgery and finally had an EGD to dilate a structure (narrowing). While I find I can now eat 1-2 oz of denser food (meat, tuna) it is still very difficult. I am now able to consume almost 800 calories/65g Protein a day without vomiting. Starting 275. Surgery 260. Now 220. I get concerned that I will never be able to eat "normally" and spend the rest of my life drinking these Protein Shakes to meet my goals. Help ://

EGD to dilate a structure (narrowing).

@@SkinnyWannaBee

congrats on loosing 15 lbs pre-op!!

40 lbs after surgery!!

55 lbs total weight loss is exciting!!

i am NOT in the medical field

but i AM a smart cookie!! LOL

it will take time for your new little tummy to settle down/heal

since you just had the EGD

maybe like you are just starting over

as if you were sleeved yesterday

you are now able to eat a little more food

after a while your eating will move forward

eat different things

hopefully things will continue to improve

your new "normal" will be regular "good healthy, nutritious foods

you will have variety

not shakes only for the rest of your life

feel better sooner than later

good luck

kathy

Sorry to hear you are going through this but am glad that you are able to take in more calories.

May I ask what it felt like to have this? What were your symptoms? I have been having problems since the beginning. Abdominal pain right where my stomach is, intermittent nausea and since being on solids food will get stuck in my throat making me unable to eat more. I am consuming about 500cal a day. I am meeting with my doctor tomorrow to discuss.

I wish you continued success and hope that you are able to move onto more "normal" eating as you put it.

Best of luck!

Thank you Kathy for your reply. Yes the weight loss to date has certainly been the biggest incentive to continuing this health journey. I guess I was hoping for one of those "no problems" stories. I have to believe that this is just a bump in the road and that a few months from now my food intake will not be the concern that it is today. For now.....I will continue to reach my 60g protein/64oz Flds and gym 5 days a week goals. But I definitely look forward to the day that doesn't start with a Protein shake!!

Mokt I knew I had a structure since about week 2 and it continued to be an issue. By the time I was vimiting daily I decided to take matters into my own hands and have a GI guy take a look week 11 (my surgeon said it wld "go away"). Symptoms included feeling like the food got stuck at the back of your throat and vomiting after only 1-2 T dense solids. I never seemed to get my calories above 500 despite the fact that I would be either eating or drinking all day (volume was not my friend). Unfortunately many patients require redilation 2-3 times but it is a pretty simple outpatient procedure (you are sedated). So I am 1 wk post dilation and I have not vomited but I still very quickly get full in the dense foods (1-2 oz). Fluids, cheese, yogurt are much easier to consume. Good luck at your appt today!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
