I have seen a lot of people talking about drinking coffee. Some even say they drink caffinated coffee.

I have always been fine with drinking Decaf since I had my kids so close and felt like I was nursing for 2 years straight...

As per my doctor, his plan calls for NO COFFEE, even DECAF EVER AGAIN!!!

Something about the acidity and ulcers I believe.

What were some other people rules with coffee? Thanks

I was able to return to caffeine 1 month after surgery. I had Decaf with no issues the first month, all with doctors approval, of course.

I've seen many post they were given coffee in the hospital the day after surgery.

I was allowed to drink Decaf after the first couple of weeks, but was to avoid caffeine for two months. I'm now back to having two cups of regular coffee a day (sometimes three if I'm traveling) and have had no bad effects.

The thing about drinking acidic beverages is that you think you're "fine" until you are no longer "fine" and then it's too late. Sometimes it's years before you know. There's a thread here from sometime last year from a nurse whose brother rotted his stomach with diet soda and by the time he discovered it he had developed bad ulcers. When you have so little of a stomach left, an ulcer can be a life threatening.

Exactly my point. It's not like someone has had the sleeve for such a long period of time seeing it is still considered "new". Maybe the effects don't happen until 5-10 years down the road... Thanks for the response

Are you prone to ulcers? coffee can be a little acidic as can be many other foods and beverages.

I was allowed to have coffee soon after the surgery and return to caffeinated coffee after about 2 months. I was told up to 2 cups a day of regular coffee is ok.

I am starting to mix Decaf coffee with my regular coffee to lessen the amount of caffeine I consume.

Re: Caffeine, people should keep in mind that many teas and diet sodas also contain caffeine.

I do not drink soda, hot Decaf tea yes (which I understand decaf is never completely caffeine free) I have never had an ulcer or think I am prone to one. 27 yrs old 210lbs. 5.5"

Just thinking about how much smaller our stomachs are would make me think (to much) caffinated or even decaf may cause some issues down the road

I'm not sure about caffeine. My surgeon expressed its the acid that's the real culprit. The ulcer issue isn't the kind caused by bacteria either.

That's what I am trying to say. Caffeine or Decaf are both acidic so it doesn't matter if you are drinking decaf... it's the acid that is the culprit

I've also been wondering about pickles as well down the line. How do they effect your tummy after surgery? Obviously I won't be eating bowls full but curious about the acidity of them

I drink it. Caffeinated. One big cup per day and that's typically the end of my caffeine for the day. That's a great improvement from my pre-op habit of drinking it all morning and chasing it with diet coke all afternoon. I also take 40mg PPI 2x per day as prescribed to prevent any issues.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
