Hit Doctor's Goal Today

Recommended Posts

Before I had surgery, I asked my doctor and nutritionist what weight I should be targeting. I started at 333 almost exactly a year ago and was 304 on the day of surgery in August. They did some calculations and said that based on average success rates with RNY, they would be happy if I were to get down to 220. That sounded like a really low number to me, and so that's what we went with even though a normal BMI would put me around 190.

Well, today I weighed myself and I'm 220!! I'm still losing 10-15 pounds a month and now that I'm here, I don't think that the normal BMI weight is crazy or impossible anymore. I've decided to just keep doing what I'm doing and let my body decide when I'm done.

I'm most happy about the mental/physiological changes that this surgery has given me... I'm no longer dominated by thoughts of food and cravings or dieting and then beating myself up for eating something I shouldn't. I just feel normal.

The weight goal is an artificial number. Let your body decide when you have reached bottom. You will naturally slide into Maintenance mode.

I was sleeved on 8/21 and my personal goal is 170 pounds. My surgeon goal was around 150. My HW was 349 and today I weighed in at 253. I made a short term goal to get 248 at my 6 month post op which is about a month away. I really want to be able to say I lost 100 pounds in 6 months. I'm 83 pounds away from goal and it just seems so far away. But I will keep working hard at the gym and clean eating because I'm determined to not give up

Thanks axlr89! Are you exercising? How many calories are you eating a day? Your weight loss is amazing!

I don't go to the gym and "exercise", but I walk quite a lot just going about my business throughout the day (8-10,000 steps per day). I'm definitely a lot more active than I have been in the past. I'm currently eating about 1200 calories a day.

Great to hear!! I feel the same way..my normal weight is around 150. Seems too low to get there, but I have faith in me.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
