Loss of Appetite TOM?

Recommended Posts

Okay after doing a little searching, and coming up empty...I wanted to reach out to see if anyone else had experienced this issue, what they did about it, if anything, etc.

So I am 2.5 months out. And in TOM number 3 since surgery, its regular and I am one of the ones whose TOM did not go haywire just after surgery.

My issue is I have no desire to eat whatsoever during days 1-3. I mean it is a complete lack of appetite, and the only thing that saves me is I have myself on an eating schedule. That being said, I have began some meals and just stopped after a bite or so. And just because I know I have to continue, I will keep it next to me and literally take an hour plus sometimes what generally takes me 20 minutes. Even the drinking Protein is a super struggle during these days.

I am not saying I want the prior crave for chocolate or sweet and salty that comes with the gift each month, but this is the completely opposite, I don't crave anything. And dread eating or drinking for that matter.

The rest of the month is fine generally, still don't have hunger, but I can eat on schedule just fine. This TOM thing is just strange as hell.

Any thoughts are welcome...

Embrace the lack of appetite, it won't last long and you will miss it in a few months or a year down the road when you suddenly have a very normal appetite again. A few days of not eating much a month is something that won't hurt you and if anything will help you hit goal faster. I am 28 months post-op and while I'm on depo, so there's no TOM there are 1-2 days a week where I'm just not hungry, so I don't eat much those days. I generally don't have much of a desire for food in general, but on days where I'm extra turned-off on the idea of eating it's great because it gives me a day of lower calories and a few ounces less on the scale, that I end up making up and gaining back a few days later. I'm at maintenance right now, but when you're losing, a few days a month with no appetite is a blessing, lol. Enjoy it!

Ava, I definitely appreciate the reply. Embracing the lack of appetite makes sense. I think my fear is that I am eating on a routine just based on the lack of appetite. If I let the routine slip, I don't want it to end up me just not eating more than those few days. That is my primary purpose for still attempting to eat at the right time.

So I think the best thing is to continue to try to eat at the right time, just not to be really hard on myself for only eating a bite or so.

Thanks

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
