Why is it so hard to down water?!

Recommended Posts

I use to drink almost a gallon of Water a day but now it's hard for me to down it and especially quickly, if I do it gets stuck in my chest wall or something lol.

But seriously this is annoying and does it ever get easier to drink continuously.

I'm four months out by the way and wine seems to go down smoother.

It gets easier every month. I am 6 months out. I can't chug 16oz in one breathe like I used to be able to but I can drink 8oz of Water in probably 5-10 minutes now. If I sip continuously I can drink forver. The key I think is the water temp which varies by person. For me I can drink room temp water easily and quickly, ice water, not so much. The same with hot tea, I can drink hot tea very fast, downing 8 oz in 5 or 10 minutes.

Have you experimented with different temperatures of Water? I can chug ice water, but anything that doesn't have ice in it sits like lead in my chest.

At 6 months post-op, it's hard for me to get liquids in be it fast or slow. I use a straw, and that helps tremendously! Hope this helps you.

Good luck!

Mom is a little bit different. I can drink fast if Water has a flavor to it. Like there's a lime in it or a lemon in it. But as long as it's plain water just plain water :cold, warm, whatever, that's sucker will not go down.

At one stage did you all start using straws again?

I started using a straw occasionally at around 4 months, but you have to be careful because you can suck in air and that really hurts. I agree with the temperature of the liquid making a big difference.

There is a chemical reason for it. My Dr explained our body metabolises Water differently after surgery.

I prided myself on the fact I was a big Water drinker before surgery but it just didn't quench my thirst after surgery.

As per my Dr's suggestion I now put a little diet cordial into my water and it's made the world of difference; it now feels silky.

I drink Fiji or Voss Water because of the silky smooth texture. No two waters are alike.

I tell my husband this all the time but he swears all water taste and go down the same. My favorite water is penta, it's a little expensive but taste great and goes down smooth.

LOL mine says it taste the same also and tell him it does not. I cannot drink Dasani as I taste all the minerals in it and it makes me nausea. I am going to have to try Penta.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
