Protein question

Recommended Posts

I can not stand any of the Protein flavored. I finally bought the unflavored and I put it in Soup yogurt pudding and is ok. How often should I have those things a day ? Also I like it mixed with skim milk can I sip that all day? Thank you!

are you pre-op? You should have at least 60 grams of Protein a day.

I used Premier Protein shakes before surgery and for a bit after surgery. After surgery my body didn't tolerate whey Protein very well. I tried lots of other types of Protein Shakes and didn't like any of them. I sucked it up and went back to whey protein - used the unflavored powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury. We do what we must. I am 3 1/2 months out from surgery now and am able to get in all my protein with regular food - but it takes a lot of planning and 3 meals and 2 Snacks a day. I also occasionally eat a Protein Bar - but can only do so about once every 2 weeks because of the problem with whey.

Hang in there! Things do get better.

As much as you need to to make sure you are getting at least 60 grams of Protein per day. At first Protein and Water are going to be the number one things that help you recover. Congrats on your recent surgery! Things will get easier and easier :)

But right get now Premier Protein shakes are the only one I can stomach.I add Unjury to my strained Soup or cream of wheat.

The first week post-op I was advised to get at least 48 grams of Protein per day. Initially, I went with New Whey because it was liquid and a 3.4oz shot had 42 grams. However, the tast was, well, less than appealing.

There are many choices on the market for Protein from shakes to unflavored protein you can add to your various meals. Like stated above your primary goal is protein first then Water. One thing I like to do is add my chocolate protein to vanilla Greek yogurt for a nice pudding-like consistency.

To answer your question, yes. You can essentially sip the protein infused milk all day. I'd recommend a way to keep it cold. But, as long as you're getting no less than 48grams in your first week (then no less than 60grams for the next 3 wks) you're good.

The three most important things after surgery are to meet your Protein, Fluid and Vitamin daily requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. As far as Protein, one needs to experiment until you find a form of Protein shake or powder that you can tolerate. It seems you have done that. Your surgeon and nutritionist should have defined the minimum amount of protein you must consume each day. That is your daily requirement. It is best to take this protein spread out throughout the day, otherwise your body may not absorb it. Some forms of Protein drinks have 45 grams per drink and if you drink this all at the same time, this can be problematic.

When you get a few months post-op, you will have another option open up for you. These are called Protein Bars. They come in very handy when you are on the go.

Also as your meal volume increases, you will have the option of reducing your reliance on protein supplements, that is, if you concentrate on consuming high protein meals. Your protein requirement is met by the combination of the amount of protein you consume from meals combined with the amount from supplements (protein shakes, protein bars).

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
