4 days post opp, got DS, no sleeve. Anyone else been threw this?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I had the band for 6 + years, it finally took 3 years of enough complaining that's someone listened and agreed something was wrong.

Anywho, I decided to go with the DS. Had surgery on Tuesday. Other then pain, everything seems to be good.

However, the surgeon said the scar tissue was so bad around the band and the the stomach had grown around the band and actually attached to part of the liver that it took him almost an hour just to remove the band. So he did not do the sleeve part of the surgery. He did however reroute the intestines and did the 'switch'

The surgeon said he said we may never have to go back to do the sleeve because he thinks this may do the trick..

I am not finding much info on the web regarding anyone else doing only 1/2 a DS.

So anyone got anything they can add to help with this?

I know a surgeon who does it. His name is Rubino and he's at Weill Cornell in NYC. Maybe you can find some of his patients online.

It's because of that lapband!!!!It messes you up.I am 5 days post revision. The most pain I am feeling is because of the incredibly hard time the surgeon had removing my band.....The DS is a very complex surgery and way more results driven than the sleeve so consider yourself better off....

To the previous poster she JUST had the intestinal portion NOT the sleeve portion so her stomach remains it's actual size. I think in time you will need the sleeve portion otherwise your large stomach will continue to hold copious amounts of food.< /p>

Never heard of not doing the sleeve along with it, who knows though, might still work out as you will still have the malabsorption.

I typed out a big rant on my own experience with revision from sleeve to sips but deleted it. Figure better to start a new topic on that one!! lol

I had the same problem. I am 4 months post op. My surgeon said the same with me on way too much scar tissue and couldn't get revision done. So he did did DS!.. So far so good on weight loss, but OMG, my stool and gas is so foul it is unbelievable. Someone in the hospital told my husband something to buy for me to take to help with that. He looked while I was in the hospital but never wrote it down....He and I sure wished he remembered it now!

You'll need to try a lot of different things. Are you lactose intolerant? Have you tried a probiotic? Also, as time goes by you'll learn what to eat and when -- to try and reduce the emissions (esp. in public). For the bathroom, there a lot of things people use:

  1. scented candle
  2. different sprays
  3. Poo-Pourri

It's a lot of trial and error.

Probably Devrom. It works great for some people and not so great for others but it's worth a try if it's really bothering you.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
