I'd announce to the family that I'm sorry for my MIL behavior, but bear in mind she's past menopause and dreading that she's used up the majority of her life.

And you heard the SIL is bitter over that recent STD incident.

But that's just me.

This had me rolling! I've been very tempted to tell them if they took weight watchers more seriously then maybe they would have their own success stories for people to ask them about. But I've been trying to be the adult in the situation. If things continue this way one day it will come out.

Tell your MIL that you are "barking" at her because you are acting like a "b***h" (female dog).

There are people in life who are can be toxic to your well being (your MIL & SIL or are they "MOL & SOL" (Mother/Sister Out Laws)). You need to distance yourself a little from them if they treat you this way.

Kudos to your husband for sticking up for you. I hope they back off from these comments and you can have a decent relationship with those 2 going forwards.

I just feel bad for my husband Bc it's his family and he wants everyone to get along so bad. His mom treated his first wife like crap and there were a lot of issues there. He was really hoping this time around his mom would be better. She was ok for the first 2 years but midway thru this year, year 3 she started her crap.

I come from a really screwed up family. I have no contact with any of my family, they pretty much disowned me Bc I graduated hs went on to college and moved 1500 miles away. I didn't fall into their drug addicted trap and become one of them. So to them I am stuck up and a snob. So eventually i quick trying with them. That was 6 years ago. My whole life I grew up with my family feuding with each other and not doing holidays together and all that. I know how bad it is to be stuck in a family that can't get along. I am trying really hard to avoid those issues with my in laws, for my husband and step kids. My father in law is great. All the rest of my husband family is great. It's just his mom and sister. I will give them the last chance at my youngest stepdaughters bday if it gets outta hand ago I will give them the boot, but I will be sure to thoroughly explain to them what they have done wrong first.

When people say they are keeping their surgery a secret on here, and other people jump in and tell them they should tell people and not be ashamed. This is the prime example of why you can't really tell anyone if you want to keep it a secret.

OP told people that should have her back and keep it quiet, but once people know there is no way that you can control who they tell, how they tell, or when they tell.

@@Ilovecats1985 I'm really sorry your MIL tried to shame you like that in front of your other relatives. I'm glad it backfired on her and I'm glad your husband supports you.

Just out of curiosity, are your mil and sil overweight? I've noticed the people in my family that are the least supportive are those that also have an issue with obesity. Their attitude has definitely thrown me for a loop, but I've decided I won't over share my excitement about this new chapter in my life. If they ask questions, I'll answer honestly, but I tend to curb my enthusaism. I hope in time, they might end up realizing that I have a much richer, healthier life and consider it an option for them as well.

I would not have told my mil about surgery at all but my husband needed her to get his kids from school the day of surgery and keep them over night. She called my sil almost immediately, I knew then it was a mistake asking her for help.

Yes they are both extremely overweight. I never bring up my surgery with anyone but my husband and best friend. Just Bc I don't want the attention and all.

They are just jealous because they either don't have the means of getting the surgery or they are afraid of surgery or they don't want to give up stuffing their faces. In either case, they don't want you to succeed because that makes them recognize their own failings.

The truth is that the only person you can control is you and you are doing a great job. Be happy with the happy things and try to tune out the Ugly in-laws.....and by ugly I mean personalities.

I can relate to what you're experiencing but I'm happy that you have the courage to make these changes in your life. I find that I just have to ride the wave of people reacting to my choice to have surgery and let them adjust to changes in my food choices and appearance. I just keep going and try to stay above all that other crapola.

Good for you for taking up for yourself! I haven't dealt with anything like this, but stand your ground!

They don't know what a struggle you have had with weight loss, and then the journey you had to get the sleeve. I am sure you did a lot of thinking before hand, and it isn't an easy decision to make. It wasn't for me. I was giving up one of my best friends....FOOD! But I knew I had to do it for me. Not anyone else. Sure I want to live a long life with my husband, but in the end, you do it for you!

I am proud of you and everyone else on BP. We all have faced something that the rest of the world doesn't understand. They have no right to criticize us for our decisions.

Holy cow, holy cow!! I am a very private person but have been upfront about my choice. I don't want attention but also don't want people to think I am trying to hide my decision. It's a balancing act that I thought was hard until I heard your story. I totally admire you and your responses to these two, I can understand wanting peace but just WOW!! Sounds to me like if it wasn't this, it would be another subject with those two. I love the "let the little dogs bark" attitude but unfortunately I would be the menopausal and STD type, but good sarcasm is lost on people like that. lol Sounds like you have a great support system around you they brought out with their nastiness. We call our friends our family by heart. Blood is not a qualifier here. Good luck and keep up the good work.

simple jealousy, some people cannot deal with the spotlight not being on them. You go on being the best you, you can be!

Amen sister!!! they are showing their true colors. always happens when something good happens to others..they either lift you up or try to pull you down with them.. stay strong!!

. As I have said recently, people who talk about you that way are not telling you about who you are, they are telling you about who they are.

Your husband is a gift. Too bad he comes with all that drama. So, let the little dogs bark and just go on with your pursuit of health and happiness.

I would confront them in front of others asking where you gave them permission to make private things public and what are they hoping to accomplish? It should not matter to any one why you aren't eating.

Seriously ... I know so many people with food "differences" I don't ask why I just ask if they have any special needs, accomodate and move on. The impression I have with some is they do want to use it to payback, get back, have control over, act like they are better because they know a secret. If so, let their shortcomings be exposed and when they've gotten some sting, maybe they can learn to treat others with some kindness, mercy and respect.

At least WLS gets rid of PHYSICAL problems, HEART/SOUL problems like that aren't as easily solved.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
