Hey There! This is my first post on this lovely forum. I was sleeved on 12/7/15. I'm doing very, very well other then getting my Protein in. I have tried everything possible and I can't keep them in they make me very sick. Anyone else having similar problems and if so what did you do to stop it?

Hi Mermaid

I just started my Optifast pre-surgery diet and have been wondering about this, too. I have beeneating a mostly vegan diet before beginning this Sleeve adventure and have noticed some dairy and gluten sensitivities. Lots of the Protein based products seem to rely on both of these ingredients and I'm wondering if there are alternatives.Gonna be talking to my Surgery Center about it on Monday. You might have a similar problem, too.

I've been bloated headachy and kinda miserable since starting this pre-op diet - hope it gets better. Good luck to you.

Check out the Isopure line it is gluten and lactose free. I don't think mine is gluten or dairy because I'm having no problems with any "real" food.< /p>

I have tried the isopure, both the creamy and the clear. The Apple Melon is the best flavor in clear, followed closely be Lemonade. I think the other flavors taste like feet. I will say I never drink more than 8ounces at a time and cut it 50/50 with ice Water. I sip it all day.

You can search online for lactose free Liquid Protein. I believe that the Bariatric Sleeve dietary guidelines for the Brigham (aka Harvard Medical School) is online and lists various sources of Protein. For me I had to start with vanilla Premier Protein and could not do chocolate for several weeks post surgery. But of course Premier Protein does contain lactose, so if that's your issue it might be problematic. That being said I could not tolerate the lactose free Bariatric Advantage until several weeks post surgery either. Just keep trying different things to see what works for you. I know it's hard though especially if like me you stocked up on certain items. Good luck!

All Protein drinks/shakes were sickeningly sweet for me the first month post op. I'm 3 months post op now and I love the premier chocolate shakes. Isopure is still pretty sweet to me but it's tolerable if a dilute it with Water. I think it's normal to not be able to get all your protein in these first few weeks. Just hang in there and soon you'll be able to tolerate more. Good luck!

I'm struggling to get anything in...my sleeve is fine when I try new foods but I'm 4 weeks out & I get 50 of Protein, about 20 of Water & a taste here or there of pureed food. I generally have a puree of 3 tablespoons a day. I'm just not getting enough of anything. I want EVERYTHING, thanks head hunger...but I just can't do it

Try Fairlife little jugs. They have 19 grams of Protein. And Unjury chicken noodle Soup is awesome. Just broth...but so tasty.

I can't recommend this stuff enough (needs to be the isolate! The concentrate is awful!). I had a hard time getting my Protein in until I bought this. My body just doesn't like dairy right now and there's NO way I can do regular Protein shakes. I bought this stuff and I mix a scoop in to 32 oz of crystal lite and it's great! Barely changes the flavor, just sort of makes it taste like Jello. Now I'm able to get both my Protein and my fluids in all in one shot. I also mixed it in to puréed foods to get a little extra in for the day.

I just can't drink that Protein anymore. I gag! The Isopure is an alternative and I found some Bariatric hot chocolate on this site I ordered. My Doctor told me not to worry about it the first few weeks but heal and try to drink ,y fluids.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
