I was told I could have coffee. Black no cream or sugar.

It's best to follow your surgeons advice but I was told that it can increase acid in the stomach and be a contributing factor to having a higher risk of getting an ulcer

it all depends on what stage you are in post surgery.

I am in maintenance now and i drink about 3 cups of coffee per day , one in the morning over about 2 hours ( yes it gets cold, lol, one in the afternoon and a Decaf at night, all with non dairy sugar free Creamer. ( i love the coffee mate italian sweet creme sugar free) But for the first 9 months i had zero coffee. Once i proved i could stay hydrated etc, and passed all my labs, my nut had no problems with my coffee drinking. I just have to space the coffee out, and i recommend half caff , or decaf as caffeine also affects us a bit stronger and repeated cups can be jarring.

My NUT says Decaf coffee only because any caffeinated beverage can increase the chance of dehydration.

That's a myth and the NUT should know better

Really....

Funny I have heard it from quite a few. I'll look into that more.

@@OKCPirate how's the weather up there?

I have been allowed caffeinated coffee and tea the whole time. Just not lots of cream and sugar.

Cold, slushy and icy. I'm taking the shuttle to the airport tomorrow. It's going to be nuts.

My surgeon and NUT only require I give it up for two weeks because it is acidic and irritates the stomach. However many post sleevers from my local support group don't really seem to start drinking it again.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
