I was sleeved on December 14th which was only a week and a half ago. I lost 18 lbs before surgery and for some reason the weight loss has come almost to a screeching halt since then. Everyone says the biggest loss comes in the months right after surgery. I've been stuck with no loss for almost a week! I know stalls will happen, but already?!?

Are you getting all your Protein and fluids? I was on the 14th too and I had same issue for a couple of days when I was not getting enough protein but plenty of Water. As soon as I forced myself to drink those +^<|\# drinks it started again.

This is very common. Over the next few months, you will see your biggest losses, but in the first few weeks, things are really wonky with the scale. You retain fluids from the IV, you have soft tissue swelling (more Fluid retention), you are healing, your body is freaking out. Things are all over the place. Hang in there and focus on your healing, getting your Water in, getting your steps in, and getting as much Protein as possible. The weight loss will come, I promise.

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the weight loss process.

If you intend to lose a lot of weight you will experience stalls. Most people experience their first stall about three weeks after surgery.

Follow your program.

Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids.

Take your Vitamins and supplements as instructed.

Exercise.

Stay off the scale.

If the numbers in the scale are going to dictate how you feel, then I recommend you weigh no more than once a week (or even less often).

Embrace the Stall!

My doctor's instructions are to weigh daily. I'll switch to not so frequent.

I agree. Stay off the scale and eat/drink what the program says. My surgery was on the 16th and have lost 10 pounds. Only time I weigh in is at appointments.

Keep it up... Your headed in the right direction. Best of luck.

If you choose to weigh every day just realize that it's just a number.

Have you taken your measurements? That is another good way to monitor progress.

I was sleeved 12/14 too. The day I came home from the hospital I was 7 lbs heavier that the morning of surgery! Though annoyed I wasn't worried. I had two c-section before and know what IV fluids can do. I am now seeing the scale move at a snails pace below my surgery day weight. Don't worry it will happen!

I stalled at 2 weeks! My first week I lost 11 lbs, I was so excited. Then from December 10th to the 22nd I only lost 2 lbs. It finally moved once I was able to get in my Protein and fluids, it seems to be pretty steady again. I'm trying to weigh myself less to be able to ignore the stalls, I'm only 3.5 weeks out and my body is doing crazy stuff and I get a little obsessed with stepping on the scale!

Just an FYI, "only" losing 2 pounds is not a stall. Everyone stalls. Everyone loses at different rates at different times. The sooner you come to peace the process and calibrate your expectations the happier you will be.

I was the exact same weight for close to two weeks, then i lost the 2 lbs. I didn't mean I gradually dropped down 2 lbs over those 2 weeks.

My surgery was on the 11th. I lost 10 lbs in the 5 days after surgery, and nothing since. I know it's not a stall. But I'm choosing to keep weighing daily to use this as an opportunity to train myself to not to be so emotionally dependent on the number (easier to do at this stage when it's almost certain that the loss will come if I stick to the plan).

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
