I am 1000% glad that I have had the sleeve a week ago today. I know it is a big change and that it takes time. I was just talking to my husband about a trip we are taking and how the food I get at my favorite restaurant ever, which I used to eat in one sitting, would now easily take me a week to consume. I began sobbing because I didn't realize what a control food has on my life. I feel awful about that and at the same time, don't know how to get it out on my head and break the addiction.

Huge (((hugs))). I'm two days preop. I just had my last "solid" meal for a while. I feel the same way about food. I love it and hate it. It has a hold on me that seems impossible to break. I know the sleeve is not magic, but I sure hope it makes it a little easier to put down the fork.

I can understand how you are feeling blue because you will never eat the same way as you have in the past. food has been a part of our social lives for such a long time and it will take time to change the way we think about food. I have recently started running and fast walking at the gym and have met some supportive friends. A good workout and a shower after makes me feel so good. I hope you can start to find your new path as I have and find peace in your food funeral. The road has a Y in it now and you will need to choose which way to go. Are you on MyFitnessPal? If so my user name is retrievertrainer1. You can do this! :)

I have just made a Non-Scale victory about 2 months ago. I now consider food a source to live, not live to eat. I made this by discovering that when I take my daughter and 18 month old grandson out to eat, I get to enjoy feeding my grandson and spending time talking to everyone else instead of stuffing my face. This gives me the freedom to talk and enjoy everyone's company and no one says things like "are you sure your done". It is amazing to sit at the table and enjoy company than to be stuffing your face and not talking.

You are pretty early out but you will notice things after they happen a few times. Good luck and hang on it is a roll coaster of emotions the first few months!!!

Sounds like it may be time to see a counselor or therapist to work through those issues. Don't suffer alone, find someone competent to help you work through theses issues.

It will take a little while, but food WILL lose the hold it has on you. It will be a strange feeling; it was for me. You're only a week out, your body is being flooded with hormones. Know that this is normal, and it too shall pass.

Hang in there!

I think your feelings are pretty normal this early out. I went on vacation at five weeks post op and one night I remember getting upset and crying because everyone was eating rice and I was not. I only had a few of these little upsets throughout this process. It gets so much easier as time passes.

Like others have posted- the food eventually loses its hold over you and you begin to view food as fuel.

When I'm tempted to eat something that I COULD eat (as in its soft which is where I am now), and if I SHOULD eat it, it becomes easier when you calculate calories. I used to LOVE sweet and sour chicken over rice. I say USED to. Because its not worth the miles and miles I'd have to walk to work off those calories.

That is so true. I can't believe the crap I used to eat. I feel so much better now!????

I have made a Pinterest board with recipes that will be sleeve friendly to get me excited about the next phase of this coming up soon. I am hoping that prepping for things that are allowed will get me excited about food in a positive, healthy way. Thanks for the feedback and support!

I was sleeved last Tuesday. I too had a blue day yesterday...thinking what the heck did I do. I too love food & the great meals with friends & family. I know, as everyone has been saying, I have so many great & amazing everyday things I will look more forward to than any meal could give me. Thank you everyone who posts! I am so grateful to have your encouragement & knowledge! I can't wait to be fit, run a half marathon, ski, & workout daily. I know moods will fluctuate but the future is too bright to stay in the blue for long! Hang in there!!

The Old = food controlled YOU

The New = YOU control food

Moral of this is:

Don't feel "BLUE" ... feel "NEW" :)

Happy new Year.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
