How long between 1st consult and surgery date?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I know everyone's situation is different. However, I was wondering how long was it between your first consult with the doctor and the surgery?

I am just trying to understand what to expect. I have UHC insurance.

Thank you,

Melody

My first consult was in March. I had to do a 6 month medically supervised weight loss program w my PCP. Then they were scheduling 6 weeks out. I had my sleeve done November.

Mine was 6 months, I had 6 months medically supervised weight loss, but my pcp was able to post-date the info from previous appointments. My BMI was 40, so I maintained for 6 months. I had a consultation with the surgeon at the beginning of June, had my surgery December 9th.

My first meeting with the surgeon was June 17 2015. He supervised my 6 month diet so I saw him 5 more additional times. I last saw him Nov 23. I am going to be 60 years old in Jan and have never had a surgery in my life so they gave me every test imaginable. The WL surgeon turned in my paperwork. My PCP still hasn't give me Medical clearance and medically necessary forms. So my paperwork is not complete, I am still waiting for approval and a surgery date. I am hoping for surgery of gallbladder and sleeve sometime in January. Each insurance and Dr is different so it is difficult to know until you have talked everything over with your PCP and surgeon.

I had my first visit with the surgeon August 3. I had to do 90 days of physician supervised diet. I'm scheduled Thursday 12/17 for surgery. I'm very thankful my insurance only requested 90 days instead of 6 months like so many others.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
