I had surgery on December 3. Everything went well, but the GAS. I thought that I was having a heart attack. Since being home I am having alot of cravings. I still have not been able to enjoy the Protein Shakes or bullets. I have tried Premier vanilla and New Whey fruit punch. I am maintaining though and this site has really helped me to understand this lifestyle change even more.

@@blessedandreborn@50 I am six days out and in the exact same boat! I thought recovery from the actual surgery would be the most difficult part, and boy was I WRONG. It's the lifestyle change more than anything...I am having a heck of a time getting Protein and Water in, I feel weak, I want FOOD! I have been watching baking shows, food Network...I'm sure it doesn't help...but I did manage to get about 1/4 cup of Tomato Soup down today (at the OK from my surgeon) and it was DIVINE! It tasted like the best thing I'd ever had...I guess stale bread would taste good to someone who hasn't had actual food in 7 days. :P

It's good to know that someone else is experiencing the same things as me. I just can't wait to see my surgeon on Friday. Perhaps the next step of foods will be better. Do you have staples or stitches. I have staples.

I'm really new to this whole process--going for my very first consult on Monday. I'm really curious why everyone talks about gas. What's up with it?

@hadsolo...Every person is different, but after my surgery I had a great deal of gas and all they told me was to walk. When I went home I used the Gas X strips. I am better now with the gas pain but I still have gas.

I was sleeved on the 8th, I'm pleased that I got enough Water in me today. I swallow way too much air. I have a lot of gas below, but with the watery stools, I can't trust a fart. Made a pudding hammock already, and that was embarrassing. But. I look at each sip as a victory. Tomorrow will be different. Count on it.

I was sleeved on the 1st. All went well but for some reason I have had a hard time getting my oxygen up so they sent me home on O2. My one week post op appt went great - down 6.3 from surgery date and today I started puréed foods! Who knew cottage cheese would taste like a gourmet meal? :)

I was also sleeved on the 7th, I was given a injection to prevent blood clots before my surgery and the next day but they didn't send anything home with me.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
