Can VSG work with coffee?

Recommended Posts

Hi All-

Just in the early exploration stages right now, and as you can see from my username, I'm a coffee person.

I want to know what kind of experiences VSG'ers have had with coffee after the procedure. I'm in the coffee business, so not drinking it is out of the question. I generally drink 3-4 120z cups a day. Usually 2 of them black, and 2 with half/half. I really don't drink milk drinks like lattes, mochas, etc.

I kinda HAVE to drink it for tasting and roast quality control..

Thanks in advance, J.

Yes, you can still drink coffee. You may experience some burning sensations the first couple of times you drink it but you will soon get over it.

On a side note, the first time I drank alcohol after the sleeve, about month 5, I had this horrible burning sensation. I thought I really messed up. But it was fine. I'm only a social drinker but am fine with it now.

Each Surgeon is different in many different subjects. As for coffee mine said no coffee or tea for the first 2 months after surgery due to it being hard on the new tummy while it is healing and coffee causes dehydration. After week 8 I am able to drink coffee again. It really depends on who you have as a surgeon. Mine also says NO Snacking only 3 meals a day.

I was allowed coffee both pre and post op, just no sugar or cream. Now I can have skim or 1% milk with it.

I drink 1 or 2 cups a day, starting about a month post op. I use 2% Fairlife milk and sugar-free Torani syrups. No problems so far!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
