Looking for someone to connect with after surgery

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I actually woke up in more pain today. But I think I may have over done myself with walking and stuff yesterday. And then I took a shower too and blah. I have a lidocaine patch on one of my incisions that is giving me the most grief and also a heating pad. I'm getting liquids in well today though so I'm hoping when the docs come to do rounds again I will get to go home!

Do any of you use my fitness pal?

It's good to hear you are doing better, I'm sure it will get better each day.

I have used it for tracking food not steps or anything like that.

I was going to say, maybe some of us could become my fitness pal, friends and we can help encourage each other etc.

Update on my status is that I'm still in a lot of pain. Got home from the hospital last night. I don't sleep much even though I'm on narcotics because nothing is comfortable to me and I think I move in my sleep and it hurts so it wakes me up.

But I'm not as nauseas anymore and that is a wonderful thing! I'm currently working on my Gatorade right now!

Does anyone also use any type of fit bit or something like that? I don't, but I feel like it could be a good investment. Just wondering what others use and why like do or do not like it.

Also, is anyone who recently had theirs done hungry? From what I've read a lot of people seem to not want to drink or eat and I would love some pizza, Pasta, etc. When people are making dinner or I walk past a restaurant it doesn't make me feel ill, it makes me hungry! Anyone else feel this way?

What stage are you at? My surgery was on the 9th, I have to say I'd really like some real food about now! My husband's been cooking for himself and the children until now, I just avoid looking at their plates, but it's tough! The only thing stopping me is knowing that my stomach isn't ready, and that it's a slippery slope! Plus remembering that my new stomach is healing as my incisions are, so still needs time before it can handle anything but liquid.< /p>

Trillian, I suggest getting "better than boullion" I got it from Walmart. It's 3.72 for a container but you get 38 8oz servings from it. I'm drinking the roast beef right now and it actually tastes like I'm having roast beef and not just broth. It's really helping me for when my family eats. Although for the past 2 nights they haven't eaten I think because they feel bad for me. But I weighed myself about 20 mins ago and from Thursday I've lost 6.6lbs. That is even better motivation for me. I know it's just Water weight for the most part, but it still makes me feel good! But really, try this stuff. It's yummy. My chicken one says "made with seasoned roasted chicken meat" it's kind of gross to look at right away because it isn't a powder or a boullion cube, but once you taste it, that weird feeling goes away about it

Lol

I have a fitbit and a jawbone. My fitbit is the zip and I'm considering upgrading to the Flex or Charge. I have has some issues with my jawbone but the customer service is awesome and I had a new one within 2 weeks. I'm currently researching the Vivo. I would really like something that's waterproof.

Any of the trackers would be a great investment. I get a kick out of counting my steps. Th only competition is myself so I try to outdo myself daily.

Tobeornottobe, competition with yourself is healthy! At least I think it is. And you bring up a good point. I would like something Water proof for when I go do aerobics class or swim laps. That's a great idea! I'll have to do some research as well! Are you on our fv group?

I meant fb not fv

Amanda, I am going to look that one up too! Do you love it?

Sorry I haven't checked in. I had surgery on the 10th and I am back at the office today. Recovery the first couple of days was tough but getting home and off the narcotics helped a lot. Yesterday was my last day of Clear Liquids and I was CRANKY! Getting more Protein is helping today but I still have a hunger like pain. Anyone else have this?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
