Sleeved 10/12 - saw my NUT today for my one month appt. We went through what I have been eating (or not eating) and she said I need to double my calorie intake! I've been getting about 400 calories and she wants me closer to 800. That seems like an insurmountable hurdle to me - lol!

Who would have thought I would ever hear that I need to eat more! Love my sleeve, losing slowly but steadily. Best decision I ever made.

Same exact thing happened at my 1 month post op. Kinda surreal to be told to eat more!! It does get easier when you're eating real food.

I'm six weeks out and still only get maybe 500 calories a day. My diet is supposed to consist of only lean meats and non starchy veggies, none of which are high in calories. How do they expect us to get more calories when we already have such restriction to begin with and when the foods we are allowed to eat are low cal?

It does get easier. I noticed it about 6 weeks out. The only way I made my Protein goal was to have a Protein Shake in the morning and then enough before bed to make up the shortage. I have no problem now as long as I have one shake a day, I'll be 12 weeks post op on Monday. Hang in there.

Aren't you allowed yogurt, cottage cheese, etc?

I still used Protein supplements early out, but got a lot of my Protein from yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna, refried Beans, and similar foods.

I was sleeved October 15. I'm lucky to get 400-500 too. My DR kind of gave me a stern talking to, I'm at a stall and he blames it on too low of calorie intake. I have to force Proteins and liquids still. Please tell me it gets easier soon.

It does get easier. Just keep working on getting in all of your Protein and fluids.

You can increase your calories by incorporating fruit, Peanut Butter, and other foods with more fats and carbs.

Stalls are a natural part of the process but can sometimes signal its time to do something different like eating more.

Embrace the Stall!

Don't worry. Once you get about 6 months out you will be shocked when your hunger returns and you all of a sudden can eat a lot!

I'm with you guys ... seems like being told to eat more is contradictory ... based on what we went through to eat less!

I'm 4 months out and I still drink 2 shakes a day ... and eat very little ... most of that is because I'm scared to ...

Seems like such a mind trick to eat more to lose more ...

Something I still have to wrap my head around ...

Crazy how things like that actually make sense ... but it's still hard to understand !

I'm 6 months and 2weeks out and I've lost 94 lbs. I'm at a stall. I do Water aerobics 5 to 6 times a week. I use to eat 500 calories a day. Now I eat 1000 and I lose weight. I'm losing inches. It's stressful because you think with all that working out I should be down much more

Im afraid of trying new foods ... I am apprehensive of putting something in my new tummy that will upset it ...

I'm still afraid of something getting suck in a staple ... silly I know ... doc says I'm far enough out I don't need to worry about that ...

but it was drilled into me during pre op and the few weeks after .... that it's still in the back of my mind ...

I was never a real vegetable person before WLS ... so it's hard to try those now and pretend to like them ...

I've been sticking with what goes down and stays well ... Protein shakes/cheese/chicken/peas/the occasional beef hot dog/chili/SF fudgesicle/water/powerade zero

that's pretty much it ...

I know I'm the only one limiting myself ... it's a mind thing ... :(

I've found the only time I ever stalled with my weight loss is when I wasn't eating enough.

That's not everyone. I am almost 2.5 years out and my hunger has not really returned nor can I eat more than 1/3-2/3 cup at a sitting. 2/3 is pushing it.

Thanks -- I can understand all that.

In my experience, so much of my success after WLS has been "a mind thing."

You had the courage to have WLS. You'll gradually find the courage to eat more nutritious foods.

Start small. You don't have to eat a cup of veggies -- start with one small bite. Chew it really well. Eventually, you'll expand your horizons.

Mom was right -- veggies are good for us. :)

So are walking, Water, and window-shopping. :)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
