Any December Sleever's?

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for surgery Monday December 21st. Finally used to liquid diet. Clear Liquids tomorrow. Excited, nervous and a tad scared. Down about 16 pounds in 2 weeks. I admit I had two bites of food but spit and rinsed really well.my clothes are already loose. Instead of thinking, no food for the holidays I'm thinking way what a great gift I'm getting for Christmas!!! Great tool for the rest of my life!

Is a hunger headache mental or real in this phase? Lol My stomach growled loudly at me when I went to bed on the second day of liquid diet. Lol!! Great ievette001 we are sleeve sisters!!

lol it happens ???? but don't worry you can do it hun. If it happens again you can drink Water or low fat chicken broth (hot) or any non caffeine teas it will help... Or a half cup of sugar free jello... I prefer the chicken broth it calms my stomach. ???? #sleevesister

I've been very overwhelmed and feeling panicky today (being sleeved Wed 12/2). I am literally terrified about the surgery. I just want to wake up and know I'm ok...I've been awake all night just worrying about it.

I can't picture being lucky enough to actually have my weight loss efforts pay off...for whatever reason I just keep thinking what if I am in the 1% of people who has serious complications or heaven forbid doesn't even pull through the actual surgery? What if my attempts at saving my life backfire? I'm feeling selfish for even doing this because I'm afraid of leaving my family.

I'm usually a very positive person but this has just got me all kinds of worked up! I'm an emotional wreck ????

I am feeling the same way. My surgery is on the 29th and I have thought about backing out more than once. Some days I don't worry and others I fear that I will have a leak or stricture and be in the hospital for months. I am a religious person so I have been praying and I hope everything goes smoothly for the both of us.

Hi, I'm Jenschubbs,

My surgery date is Dec. 31, 2015. Excited and nervous. I start my 2 week Protein Shakes tomorrow for prep. Just found this site, and am thankful to read what people are doing, how they are doing. It is going to be very helpful to find others who understand the journey. Thanks!

I'm December 31st too!

I had my sleeve done on the 17th. I am your typical worry wart, analyze everything sort of people and prior to surgery, I seriously was scared and second guessing myself. I'm hear to tell you -DON'T WORRY !! It will all be alright !

Surgery went off without a hitch. The first 30 mins of recovery was the worst...terrible pain in your upper chest. This is just gas. My stomach which was getting flatter with my previous weight loss now looked like a 6 month pregnant belly !!

Full of gas....

I was in hospital for 2 long days. For me, good because I was forced to not do anything. The incisions really don't hurt, just sensitive to touch. On day 5, only one of them slightly hurt. Coughing is no problem either.

Only really took pain meds the day, although nursing staff come in and out so frequently, I should have knocked myself out so I could rest in between.

Hunger has not been a problem. I'm doing GNC Total Lean, which has amazing flavors, pumpkin spice, vanilla chai, strawberry creme and banana creme which tastes exactly like a banana creme pie I make.

I think the most important thing is you sip sizes. I can tell when my sip is too much. Too big ? Wait 10 seconds and you will get this little pain in your stomach, but it only last a second or two....

All in all, things are good. Not as bad as I had imagined it would be. Tired of course, but keep drinking your Water and your shakes, you got this !!! Happy Holidays to all.... I would like to hear what people are going to be eating on Christmas. I was hoping I can mix mashed potatos, no lumps with turkey gravy into a puree, any ideas ???

Hi Mamabear, I was sleeved on 17th as well. Did it in Tijuana and all went well. Just got home at midnight last night. I feel quite exhausted. Tiny sips of my Protein concoction taking one pill at a time this morning. Breaking them in half, too. Hard, but managing through it. How is your energy level? I feel like a lot of gas is gone, but still some left. I am on clear liquids through Wednesday. I am thinking maybe energy will be better in the "mush" stage.

For Christmas dinner, I am going to try a couple baby bites of mashed potato mixed with gravy possibly. Right now I have no appetite, so wondering if I will even want that. Could also mix the whey protein in the mash potatoes so you are getting the protein in the baby bites. I use pure whey isolate so it won't change the flavor.

Hi Violet! I was wondering how you are. Energy is low too... Dr let me start Protein Shakes on day 3.. also sugar free Jello and unsweetened applesauce. I am not hungry but last night I got dizzy so my dietician told me I need to eat and drink even if I'm not hungry. Think I'm doing warm chicken broth and potato/gravy for xmas... and please keep in contact.... it's nice to have someone to do this with !!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
