What is your "full" feeling?

Hi all,

I had my LB surgery a week ago and am recovering well. I have no problems with full liquids and and yesterday tried some purée.

Sometimes I have been getting some discomfort in my chest that feels a little like indigestion & I am wondering if this is actually what my new "full" feels like, or if it's just part of the healing process. My band was put in empty, so in theory there should be minimal restriction, but I'd be interested to hear from other banders how they know when they are full?

Congratulations on your surgery! Glad you are healing up well. Some people have a very pronounced soft stop, like a hiccup or cough, a pain in the shoulder, drippy nose, etc.

In the beginning I practiced eating with a clock. I was such a fast eater and that has been a major challenge for me -- slowing down. Even two years later I have to remind myself or my band will do that for me. I notice that I get bored with my food and that is a sign for me. Maybe I'm keeping that bite in my mouth for a long time and sort of playing with it -- that is a signal. We are all so different and it's fascinating, this whole thing, isn't it?

With my first band, i would get a drippy nose and/or hiccups. My first surgeons office had let us know that those were indicators, so i really tried to pay attention to them....but sometimes, you dont' know until you take one bite too many.

Then you feel pressure, and i knew as soon as I felt that, that it was stuck and was not going to pass thru my band.

I'm 2 days post op with my new band, and i'm interested to see what will work for me this time. Some foods i will not try (like broccoli) because that was hell. Which sucks because i LOVE broccoli...hmm, i also didn't have a food processor so maybe, MAYBE i'll try it that way when I can start eating solid/mushy

Been banded 5 years, never had a full feeling...not in the true meaning of the word.

For me it's a small hiccup, and sometimes if I push past that hiccup as I would get them all the time even before banding I get that pressure feeling on my diaphragm and I know I have eaten one bite too many. My hubby gets a stuffy nose, and it's funny when we are out together I always know when he's had enough because he will get all stuffed up :)

For me you will hear this hiccup sneeze sound and you know we always end up telling each other...that we have reached that point. He will say I guess your done, when hears me and I'll often say to him "are you full?" when I see him sniffle. It's silly but it's how it works for us. We are all so very different, and it takes time to figure it out and sometimes it take someone else to point it out for you.

I am also new to the LapBand. I got my Dec16.

My full feeling has been up and down. It has taken me to learn when enough is enough. Like others I have symptoms, when I am full or just past I get hiccups and slight tightness in my upper stomach. I have gone past that and its always been eating too fast (yogurt or apple sauce) I was also feeling brave and had eggs which was on my 2nd week diet list. The onset of the symptoms are almost like my stomach is choking. I instantly get a very strong discomfort then extreme tightening of my stomach to the point where I can feel the pain in my back and shoulders. This leads to almost always almost or actually throwing up. My only advice that has worked for me when getting to that point was to drink Water. There is no liquid where the food is and its much more painful, for me at least.

I've decided to keep my meals much smaller and to train myself slow down. I am then able to control how my body reacts to food, esescially during this healing phase of my LB journey.

in a situation when you feel something is stuck how do you remove that feeling right away? do you wait on it or drink Water asap? because I cant imagine feeling like something is chocking me specially food.. how do we solve this feeling when we know we ate to fast and is not going down properly? is scary to think about it

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
