HELP! i need quick tips!

Recommended Posts

Geez... the drama never ends! Finally after 11 months into this process and a surgery date of Nov 16th i come down with a stinking, freaking cold!! I called my surgeons office to find out of there is anything over the counter i can take and was told me having a cold will be put into my file. My surgery can be cancelled and it's up to the discretion of the anesthesiologist. Smh. I have 5 days to get over this. Any tips? lol I'm looking for a miracle! ????????????

I fibbed about having a cold when I had my gallbladder removed last year. << That's not as major a surgery, though. Take lots of Vitamin C and zinc and chicken broth (you can have broth, right?). Hope you feel better soon!

All of the above and hot herbal infusions (herb "tea").

And lots of rest.

Herbal infusions? What's that?

Lots of Vitamins C. I haven't had a cold in ages but when i did I use to grate some fresh ginger, cut up a whole lemon some honey a few spindles of chilli and biol it then sip it as hot as i could. the next day the cold would almost be gone.

But i would be drinking this several times a day for one day.

Using saline spray (non-medicated, regular saline spray) every couple hours will help you to kick the cold much faster. No one likes squirting the salt Water up their nose, but it really will clear things out for you ASAP (I worked for Ear Nose and Throat docs for 8 years, so believe that I know what I'm talking about). That, and drink a TON of Water. Stay super hydrated. Eat spicy foods, super hot Soup, tea, etc. Take a hot shower or bath. Sweat that baby out. Good luck!

PS - I felt a cold coming on yesterday, started the saline regimen and am already on the mend.

great advice from OP on dealing with the cold

i have seen others also had a cold just before surgery

i have heard from the board - that if you don't have a fever, you should be good to go

but as you said, anesthesia has the final word

follow some of the great advice given, should be feeling better

can you take time off from work before surgery

your office probably has you scheduled for time off for off

ask the question

get as much rest as you can

have kleenex handy and feel better

good luck, feel better

Talk to your doctor before taking anything. You don't want anything that will change your blood work ups, thin you blood or interact badly with your anesthesia.

I had a horrible cold right before my surgery and I was told to take Tylenol cold and flu right up to midnight the night before. I didn't have a fever so surgery was on.

I was also on my period. ;) That's usually the other common ailment. :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
