Any November surgeries?

Recommended Posts

Monibaby18 I'm in the same boat as you. My surgeon never said how much he wanted me to lose. I lost 7 lbs I'm week one of my liquid diet but now it's at a stand still. My surgery is on the 16th and my insurance expires on the 29th. I've wanted this for years and this is my last chance for a long time. My worst fear is being opened up and them not doing it :(

My surgery is Nov 24th. I am super excited and nervous! My surgeon didn't put me on any specific diet, he just told me to keep doing what I am doing and try to loose as much weight as possible before surgery day. What kind of diets did your doctor put you on pre op?

Surgery went well. Day 1 and 2 are tough. Keep on the pain meds and you'll be good. Day 3 has been a lot better.

Don't be surprised if you doubt your decision at first, it's rough. Very happy still.

Hi

I was due to have my bypass (private) on 18th November but got a call yesterday to say it has had to be cancelled, due to there not being any recovery staff available on that evening...... :(

It was a nightmare to arrange cover at work and now I have to try and alter it........!

I didn't expect any problems such as cancellations as I only thought that happened with the NHS!!

Anyway, my new date is now 23rd November - so not too long a wait  and they better not cancel again as I really want this before Xmas as the chocolates will not be safe!!

I started the milk diet a week-and-a -half earlier than I had to to show my commitment and now I will have been on it for 5 weeks by the time my day arrives!! :D

So my surgery was November 10. I remember nothing except for the doctor asking me if I was ready and I agreed. And then I woke up! Sore as hell. But I was able to tolerate the pain.

For me the pain is like giving birth to a baby! My hospital didn't provide a belly band they offered a pillow. However I went to Walmart and bought one! The darn thing was $10 and it's a life saver!!!! I have worn it everyday since I left the hospital ???? now don't get me wrong it was painful the night of the surgery I had a button that I could push ever 10 minutes for a narco but it made me so tired! So I opted not to use it at all. I am not able to drink the 15ml of liquid hydrocodone I feel like it keeps getting stuck in my throat!

So far since being home I haven't had a bowel movement but my doctor said that I could eat a banana! I only ate one bite and handed it over. I'm not hungry! And I keep feeling like when I drink something I feel it sitting right there in my throat and it's barely making its way to my stomach!

Now that the surgery is over I'm back on this liquid diet ???? I'm over the chicken broth, apple juice makes me sick, sugar free Jello taste horrible! But I have a new love for cranberry juice! That's all I have been able to manage since Tuesday and a bite of ice cream.

I have stayed away from the scale although I am eager to know what it will say in two weeks!

Pain is different for everyone. I've had 3 back surgeries and day 1 was worse with this. No belly band option was given.

I'm better now and ready for something besides shakes.

I picked up some yogurt ice pops from target. I had some yogurt yesterday. I haven't touched not one ounce of chicken broth ???????????????? cranberry juice is all that I have been drinking besides Water. Lollipops have been delicious because I was sick of ice pops and cold stuff makes me get chest pains.... Weird. I have apple sauce too. My doctor said anything that is milk based I can eat. He also said that I could eat some oatmeal as long as I use milk to mix it up. Hopefully that will help! ????????

I find it odd that every doctor is completely different on diet pre and post op.

Yogurt seems like an obvious choice, but my doc said no. Just Protein and water/sugar free drink for 2 weeks.

I am down 16 lbs since Monday weigh in.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
