Probably a dumb question but....

Man, I remember thinking this. Truth be told, I don't remember when it was that I could take a big slug off my water bottle. But I can say that now at 8 months I can drink almost like I used to. So I would venture to say that by at least 6 months you will be able to take a thirst quenching drink.

I'm 4.5 months out, and I can take normal drinks of Water. But I can't GULP a huge amount at once.

I'm only a month out and can take a decent sip now. The "sip sip sip" was really annoying me at first because I felt so incredibly thirsty. I still can't gulp like I used to but I can get enough to satisfy my thirst for the moment.

I'm 4 weeks post-op. It only took about two weeks until I could sip a "regular" amount. I found out by accident when I took a big gulp of Water. I expected extreme pain but it didn't hurt at all.

I do have to leave some time between sips.

I got my sleeve on sept 2 and right now if I haven't eaten within the last hour I can take a couple of big gulps. I remember how frustrating it was with those tiny sips. I was so thirsty and I never felt quenched. But now it's much better

I am 4 years out... I cant down like a quart of Water or something, but i certainly drink and eat in what most people consider normal. I stil avoid wolfing down or glugging down food/drink - but that isn't what i need to do anyway!

I should also mention that my thirst nowadays is not the same as before surgery. I don't eat any junk food anymore, no serious sweets and my sodium is probably cut in half. So my thirst is more easily slaked than before. If you follow a healthier diet like we are supposed to, I wouldn't be surprised if you find the same true for you as well.

On those hot summer days, I longed for being able to gulp, but it is just fine without it. I am 6 months post op and drink larger sips of Water than after post surgery, but probably never again as I used to. But, it becomes the new normal.

I am 2.5 months out and I'd say drinking is about 65 percent like pre op so much better tganvrge first few weeks and can take bigger gulps but certainly I can't down a glass if Water in one go. It takes me about 5-10 minutes total resting between a gulp or two

I'm 15 days past surgery and can drink Water just fine.

I've always been a huge Water drinker and would gulp it down in no time.

I can now drink a 30oz cup of water in ten minutes if I keep at it. That's plenty fast for me.

I'm not trying to do anything that would put undue pressure on my new sleeve.

Thirst of any type quit being an issue a couple days out from surgery. Gulping and guzzling, however, aren't part of the new way of doing things....at least for me, though.

It's not been a problem whatsoever, though.

Best wishes.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
